Hillary 1984

I believe Hillary is a perfectly viable candidate and outstanding public servant.  This video is just genius, though... so posting it.  Enjoy.

I'm not picking anyone until later.  I want to see what Gore and Clark do.

Wow... (cycle12 - 3/5/2007 11:15:15 PM)
Double-plus-good.

Thanks!

Steve

Double-minus bad, IMHO (Lowell - 3/6/2007 7:15:11 AM)
See Chris Guy's diary about Democrats attacking other Democrats, and whether or not we really want to win.

Understood and agreed, Lowell... (cycle12 - 3/6/2007 9:03:16 AM)
I certainly wasn't lauding the Obama campaign for going negative on Hillary, only for coming up with an ingenious advertising scheme, which it was.

Lowell, we've been communicating very positively for nearly a year, now - ever since you called me about the infamous Mudcat/Miller squabble at our home almost exactly a year ago and asked me to post a statement about it here - and you know how adamant I am about never saying anything negative about brother and sister Democrats.  That hasn't changed.

Yes, Democrats attacking Democrats is most definitely an Orwellian "double-plus-ungood" mistake and nightmare.

Finally, to repeat one of my frequent mantras with some recent revisions:

We all know the enemy, and her/his name is neither Clinton, nor Obama, nor Edwards, nor Gore, nor Clark, etc...

Thanks!

Steve

This is NOT from the Obama campaign per Josh Marshall (beachmom - 3/6/2007 11:15:08 AM)
So it's not Democrats attacking Democrats.  It's some cool filmmaker attacking one Democrat.

Thanks, "beachmom" (cycle12 - 3/6/2007 11:31:19 AM)
This video - along with its origins and producers - has become quite the "sticky wicket", hasn't it?

If Josh is correct (and I have no doubt that he is) then I would hope that the Obama campaign will denounce the video, and very soon...

Thanks again!

Steve

Is the "cool filmmaker" (Lowell - 3/6/2007 11:31:58 AM)
a Republican or Democrat?

Lowell -- whether you agree with the message or not, (beachmom - 3/7/2007 11:58:55 AM)
the video was well done, stylistically.  Obviously, any 1984 rendition is more appropriate for the Bush White House than the Clintons.  But I just don't take it very seriously.  I also think that Obama should condemn the video when Hillary:

1.  Defends Edwards' bloggers who were scalped by the right wing attack dogs led by Bill Donahue.

2.  Takes back her back stabbing remark against Kerry when "the joke" happened, siding with Karl Rove over a fellow Democrat one week before an important congressional election.

Once she does the two above tasks, then we can talk about what Obama "MUST" do.

My understanding is Clark is not running (beachmom - 3/6/2007 11:18:58 AM)
http://www.dailykos....

Markos is dropping him from the Straw Poll.  Please, if he's not in now, there's no way he'll be able to catch up.  He said he will not be a candidate for the next 3 months.  I think his viewpoints are interesting, but he's not going to president.

Clark IS running (drmontoya - 3/6/2007 1:53:58 PM)
Wes Clark Jr. corrected Kos yesterday.

Not really (sndeak - 3/6/2007 2:59:52 PM)
I believe Wes Jr. said it was too early to make an announcement on his decision. That is not the same this as he IS running.

I was waiting for Wes, but like so many others, not any more.

Mystery solved -- this is an old Apple ad from 1984 (beachmom - 3/7/2007 11:48:40 PM)
So I guess I admire some ad people from the 1980s.  Amazing how it didn't look dated, and was just a cool ad.

Here is the original ad:

http://www.youtube.c...

The ad was only shown once as an introduction of the Macintosh during the superbowl in 1984.

Another excellent find, "beachmom"! (cycle12 - 3/8/2007 9:38:53 AM)
Agreed, and as I have written here previously, the ad was quite well done and should remind each one of us to be particularly wary of all that we see and hear these days, especially as we get more deeply into presidential politics and can never know what tricks may be played upon us.

To be led astray by such "double-think" methods would surely be "double-plus-ungood."

Thanks!
