McCain: American Troops' Lives Have Been "Wasted"

I can't wait to hear all the right-winger "outrage" over John McCain saying, "We've wasted a lot of our most precious treasure, which is American lives."  As the article points out:

In February, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama described the lives of troops in Iraq as having been "wasted" but then apologized a day later for making what he called "a slip of the tongue" that he said was not meant to diminish their sacrifice.

OK, right wingers, let's hear your outrage at John McCain!  Hello?  Why is it that all I hear are crickets chirping.  Chirp, chirp, chirp, chirp...

This was McCain's first public announcment that he's "in", and he says that the lives of servicemen have been wasted.

Surefooted indeed.

Not as bad as Guiliani stealing money from the 9/11 widows fund, but not good either.

Have you seen his email announcement? (Chris Guy - 3/1/2007 2:34:34 PM)
It's amateur hour....http://www.mydd.com/...

I'm a big McCain fan... (littlepunk - 3/1/2007 2:52:03 PM)
...but i love the picture.  Seems very funny and appropriate

Iew, you're a McCain fan? (phriendlyjaime - 3/1/2007 3:54:53 PM)
Ugh, gross.

Oh, no offense.  ;)

Where's the anger?  Who wants to make bets that it won't be near as bad as the anger over Kerry's botched joke?

Nevermind, I am poor.

I was a McCain fan (Hugo Estrada - 3/1/2007 4:08:06 PM)
But his recent behavior of courting the religious right and becoming a yes-man for Bush has turned me off. I admired his independence and his integrity. Now that both seem to be gone, I feel sorry for him.

That being said, I like how McCain had the Freudian slip. It shows how Republican leaders know very well that the situation in Iraq is hopeless.

I'm with you (Adam Malle - 3/2/2007 8:07:41 AM)
6-8 months or so ago, McCain was almost going to be my first time voting for a republican. well... then he showed his true colors and reminded me why I vote Democratic.

1.  I am not a spokemsn for McCain

2.  I don't have enough time to defend everything that will be tossed out on this site and others

With that being said I will try and address your concerns Hugo

He met and talked to people that doesn't mean he is in lockstep with them.  The contenders with the D nomination meet with all sorts of different people too and it is foolish to assume they agree with everyone they meet with.

As far as being a Bush supporter we are Republicans so we are going to support Bush but not all of the time and not in perfect lockstep

It's really hard to proves ones independence or integrity over a blog so on that I would urge you to follow along the next couple months and keep an open mind

here is the website  http://www.johnmccai...

Things will really start to crank up in April

McCain's lost integrity (Hugo Estrada - 3/1/2007 7:09:18 PM)
Novamiddleman,

Thank you for addressing these issue. Let me return the favor, and explain why I can't support McCain in 2008.

I voted for John McCain in 2000 in the California primary. I liked the man a lot back then. I liked him a lot after 9-11, when he called for an energy plan that would have reduced our dependency in oil.

I liked him when he was publicly outraged about Abu Ghraib. It was obvious then that McCain had a good moral compass. He was independent and he radiated that.

Many times I wished that he were the president instead of Bush, and I said so publicly many times.

Then, he changed. He seems more eager to please; more willing to pander I would said. I am saddened by this, I truly am.

Take the topic of this diary, for example. Obviously McCain believes that the war is a failure and a waste of time, money, and lives.

Yet he is openly supporting a failed war and willing to risk more lives so that he will be politically correct among radical conservatives.

This is not the McCain I used to respect.

And it troubles me that McCain is so eager to put party discipline over our country and the lives of people.

I still haven't made up my mind about Giuliani or Romney. I need to learn more about them, and I will keep that open mind.

So let me finish by returning the invitation to keep an open mind, and I am confident that you will give our Democratic candidates a fair look.
