Thelma Drake on the Hot Seat

Thank heavens the reputable blogosphere is keeping Drake on the hot seat. Thelma Drake needs something to force her to at least try to be a public servant and not simply a Bush/Cheney pawn.

For some time now, Thelma Drake's landlord has been called to confront dissenting constituents and told they are "trespassing on private property," that the police have been called, and they must leave the premises immediately or face arrest. It didn't matter if the people (6-20 folks) stated they were constituents and simply visiting their representative's office to deliver letters or a petition. The police have been called on numerous occasions.
Last week's incident, resulted in the arrest of a military veteran, Tom Polumbo, who simply sat down in front of the office stating that he would wait for the office to re-open so he could deliver the letters. This resulted in his arrest. This incident was first reported at Shadow Norfolk and was picked up at my Mosquito Blog  The VB Dems and GOTV also worked to spread the news.

Thankfully, Virginia's Blogosphere is refusing to let this issue--of a representative's taxpayer funded office being utilized as a private property-die. Today, some blogs--Vivian Paige and Not Larry Sabato --checked in on this issue and are keeping it alive.

Our readers can take action on this. Contact your personal representative in the U.S. House and ask them to file a formal complaint. Also contact Nancy Pelosi's office via email and/or call her DC office at (202) 225-4965.

Let them know that Drake has violated the House ethics by treating her dissenting consituents to charges of trespassing in order to prevent them from utilizing her office. Drake is treating her publicly funded District Office like it's her own private office. If Drake wants a private office she should be paying the bills.  In addition she is not upholding her constitutional oath which includes the rights of her constituent to petition for a redress of grievances.

It's behaviors such as this that earned Thelma the nickname of Tra La La Drake.  She has that Barbara Bush "Let Them Eat Cake" mentality.

Drake on House Armed Services Committee (b crowe - 2/28/2007 4:45:20 AM)
Rep. Drake is a member of the House Armed Services Committee, and she boasts about serving veterans on her web site: "I have always fought for the protection of veterans and the retired military community....When duty called, these brave men and women answered heroically to defend our freedom and the values that we as Americans hold dear. It is now our duty in Congress to answer the call and meet the needs of our veterans...."

Rep. Drake has a strange way of showing her appreciation of the freedoms and values we hold dear. Any veteran attempting to deliver a petition with which she may not agree will be denied access to her Congressional office and arrested.

The Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee should be told how Rep. Drake treated Mr. Palumbo, a military veteran.

Thelma Drake's "Support" of the Troops (Susan P. - 2/28/2007 6:07:27 AM)
Let's remember that Thelma Drake is the real estate agent who ran against a Marine veteran who had recently returned from Iraq, calling this veteran "weak in the War on Terror."  The Marine veteran had also served in a bucket brigade at the WTC after 9/11; no indication from Thelma Drake as to whether that also made him "weak in the War on Terror."  Thelma Drake was also a supporter of former Rep. Ed Schrock.  You may remember Ed Schrock: a retired military officer and vocal opponent of gays in the military ("they're in the showers with you," "they're in the bunkroom with you"), who, it turned out, was actually gay and had called a gay "dating service" and described his specific wishes in some detail.  Ed Schrock was then lauded by Thelma and George Allen, and went on to a job as a well-paid Congressional staffer thanks to Tom Davis.
