Russ Potts Retires

Watch the video here.  I wish Russ Potts well.  He is the type of Republican that used to give Republicans a good name.  Unfortunately, the Russ Potts type of Republican appears to be a dying breed, but we can only hope that this situation will turn around soon, for the good of our state and the good of our country.

I was fortunate enough to be a part of the REAL Republican renaissance, of a Republican Party that was a party of ideas, which is not the case today.  The definition of a quote real Republican has been altered so much that we would barely recognize what a Reagan or Eisenhower Republican looks like.  I wear that banner proudly.  And though we are a vanishing breed, there are still a few of us left who believe in governing from the middle.

I will never retire, and I will never quit fighting for what I believe in, and for what I believe is best for Virginia.  For my Republican Party, I've made up my mind I'm gonna do one of two things.  First, I'm gonna work to change the party, because it's worth saviing.  And if I can't save it, I'll leave it.

One more comment I thought was interesting: Potts all but endorsed Creigh Deeds for Governor or Attorney General.

I'm Scared Over Who's Going to Replace Him (PM - 2/22/2007 4:23:14 PM)
Seriously, I don't want my two daughters growing up in a state where someone like a Cuccinelli is writing the laws.  Potts did a lot to stop those ignoramuses.

Sen. Chichester...IS HE NEXT? (oncerednowblue - 2/22/2007 4:28:19 PM)
John Chichester had a difficult - if not downright miserable - GA session dealing with the Flat Earthers in the GA and the 28th Senate District GOP Committee.

Now with Russ Potts saying "check, please" could Chichester be next?

Ughh... (doctormatt06 - 2/22/2007 4:45:09 PM)
One of the few Republicans who aren't crazy goes again...

Yeesh...I'm afraid of who's going to replace him too.

I'm sure all the conservative whackjobs are cheering.

The only ones happy about Potts' retirement (Lowell - 2/22/2007 4:51:07 PM)
are the far right-wing ideologues.  Everyone else is sad to see Potts - and his brand of moderate Republicanism - fade into the sunset.

he is the only Republican (thegools - 2/22/2007 6:26:10 PM)
I have ever given money too.  He is also one I have voted for (against Tate in the last primary).

I am happy to say he has been my Senator, and I am sad to see him go.....now we have Tate running again.

Democratic majority in the Senate all the more important (elevandoski - 2/22/2007 4:51:31 PM)
If Dems pick up the majority in the Senate, aren't we then in charge of naming the Chairman of the Senate Education and Health and wouldn't we be in charge of its membership, assuring that we have the votes to knock down the craziness coming from the House?
