McCain scapegoating Rumsfeld

John McCain is running for President and he needs to blame someone for the fiasco in Iraq.  He's blaming Donald Rumsfeld.

Far be it from me to defend Rumsfeld's tenure at the Defense Department, the reality is that Rumsfeld was a disaster.  But McCain has declined to crticize Bush or address the supine behavior of the Republicans in Congress.

The problems in Iraq and in the Defense Department could have been addressed in a positive way if the Republicans in Congress had been willing to exercise some oversight, if they had been willing to be more than a rubber stamp for the Bush administration.
Where was John McCain?  Why didn't McCain start a new Truman Commission to stop war profiteering, waste, fraud and abuse?

We have been at war longer than we were at war during World War II.  Why don't our troops have the equipment they need?  Why are our wounded soldiers forced to live in squalor?  Why are 21,500 additional troops being "surged" into Iraq without adequate equipment?

While Republicans and Democrats may disagree about the wisdom of sending more troops, surely we can agree that if we MUST send troops we MUST equip them properly, yes?

The truth about Iraq is that it is a REPUBLICAN disaster.  It was planned and carried out by a Republican administration, with the full cooperation of the Republican dominated Congress, and carried out by Republican contractors.  At every level Democrats were EXCLUDED from the planning, execution and oversight of the War in Iraq.  If the War in a Iraq is a failure, it is a REPUBLICAN failure.

Of course McCain praised Rumsfeld just a few months ago.  You can read more about McCain's change of heart about Donald Rumsfeld at CNN.com.
