"a worthy operation"

Well, I thought Virginia Republicans couldn't sink any lower...

How wrong I was.

Since the infamous George Allen "M-Word" meltdown, Virginia Republicans have been tripping over themselves to shore up support among the ignorant, the intolerant, and the downright bigoted.  There was Virgil Goode's original nativist rants about Muslims taking over Congress, and then his psychopathic hallucinations of Muslims in the White House.  There was Frank Hargrove who simultaneously told African Americans to just "get over" slavery, while implying that jews killed Christ.

Now, we have the example of Faisal Gill, who served as "spokesman" for a radical cleric who apparently described the destruction of an Argentine Jewish Community Center and the resulting 86 deaths as "a worthy operation".  Among the Virginia Republican luminaries officially endorsing Faisal Gill:

State Senator Ken Cuccinelli
State Sen Candidate Bob FitzSimmonds
Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling
Delegate Scott Lingamfelter
Chairman-at-Large Corey A. Stewart

Has the Virginia Republican party become the party of abject cowardice?  It's an embarassment to every Virginian that these officials represent America's strongest Commonwealth while their weakness is so overwhelmingly apparent in word and deed.

These elected Republicans must retract their endorsements, or prove that Faisal Gill was not the spokesman for man who endorsed terrorism.

Facing the world takes bravery.  Facing the future takes bravery.  Facing American heritage and diversity takes bravery.

The Virginia Republican party has sunken to levels of paranoia, bigotry, and outright cowardice heretofore unimaginable in American politics.  This is just the latest example.  There is no end in sight, and apparently no level to which they will not sink.

The future requires integrity, not bigotry.  Virginia requires leadership, not hate.

So some questions remain.  Do Mr. Gill and other Virginia Republicans, including Lt. Governor Bill Bolling and Senator Cuccinelli believe that the murder of 86 jews can be construed as "a worthy operation."?

Mr. Gill apparently worked for a man who endorsed the wholesale slaughter of Argentine jewery.

Is this the future of Virginia poltics?
Jesus wept.

[UPDATE:  I've changed the title, because after reading through "asimpwc"'s blog, I've got to be skeptical of its integrity.  It's way over the top.  Besides, it choices not supporters that call character into question.]

[UPDATE:  No sooner do I call asim's blog into question then the lights go out...

As fake smear blogs go, it was a good one.  Here's the genius fake quote; for posterity:
One of his grassroots supporters had this wonderful, glowing endorsement for Faisal Gill:

Faisal Gill would use your money well to win in the election and help the Muslim community and the other communities of Virginia. Think about helping Faisal Gill. Maybe he can stop the jews.

This "asim" guy is scum (DanG - 2/16/2007 7:50:45 PM)
Read his blog.  He's a total anti-semetic to a Nazi-like degree.  Reading his blog made me sick.

Here's all you need to know about this psycho: (Chris Guy - 2/16/2007 8:02:26 PM)
the medieval canard about Jews killing Christian children and using their blood in making pasta for the Jewish holiday of Passover is not entirely unfounded.

Do I understand this? (Teddy - 2/16/2007 10:06:14 PM)
Josh, does this Faisal individual support and agree with these comments about Jews which you quoted here, or are these comments Faisal's own? And is Faisal now running for public office as a republican? It's hard to believe that even today's non-traditional, theocon-style so-called Republican Party is actually endorsing, condoning, supporting such an utterly demented character.  Well, on second thought, Cucinelli doesn't surprise me, but the GOP as a whole? My, what a wide tent you have, my dears.

Holy smoke.

He hasn't disavowed them... (Josh - 2/16/2007 11:07:58 PM)
Nor has he disavowed the sentiments of his former employer.

Until he does, he fits the mold set by Allen, Goode, and Hargrove.

Virginia deserves better.

Grover Norquist's buddy (Kindler - 2/16/2007 10:57:47 PM)
This Faisal dude has enough baggage to fill Dulles airport.  He also has powerful conservatie Republican allies -- most notably, Grover Norquist.  Check out the 2004 Salon.com article questioning why the Bush administration appointed Gill to -- of all places -- the Department of Homeland Security!

There's something very weird and disturbing going on here.  I almost don't want to know what it is.
