NLS Asks a Provocative Question

Over at Not Larry Sabato, Ben has asked a provocative question: "Is Tom Davis destroying the Fairfax GOP?

Is the Fairfax GOP proud enough to stand up to Tom Davis and demand Republicans run candidates other than just his wife in these districts?

Because if Jeannemarie loses, not only will the Republicans be left without any state/local elected officials in much of central Fairfax- but by not fielding candidates they will also be left with no future.

My answer?  Good!  Let the Republicans not run any candidates against Delegate Bulova, Delegate Marsden, Delegate Shannon, Delegate Scott, Delegate Plum, Delegate Watts, Supervisor Bulova, Supervisor Smyth or Supervisor Hudgins.  Let them get wiped out in broad swaths of Virginia's largest county (1 million people; one-seventh of the state's entire population).  As Nate de la Piedra writes, "I'll drink champagne, it'll be great."  Mmmmmmmmm...champagne on election night.  Or beer.  Mmmmmmmm....

It's very simple (Chris Guy - 2/13/2007 9:27:07 AM)
If it has nothing to do with Tom Davis getting elected a U.S. Senator or his wife eventually getting elected to the House of Rep., he doesn't care.

Can't Stand Him (countertop - 2/13/2007 2:58:23 PM)
Here's an offer - not much good know but call me on it later - I'll run free ads on my more to the right and slightly republican blog for any candidate running against either of these incompetents

A clumsy machine (Kindler - 2/13/2007 7:11:28 PM)
Tom Davis is obviously trying to build a political machine in Northern Virginia, but he's doing it in such a ham-fisted way that he may end up undermining his own efforts.

I mean, the guy spends $3 million to blanket his district with propaganda against Andy Hurst, who few people had even heard of.  It's impressive to see that kind of money being raised and spent, but it also shows paranoia, arrogance and wastefulness.

I suspect we'll see more of the same as Davis puts the squeeze on his corporate donors to give the maximum to his wife's campaign.  But sure, if it hurts other Republican candidates, it ain't going to help him in the long run.
