A Small Tunnel Update

Several days ago I emailed Governor Kaine through his official state website.  Today I received essentially a form letter from the Secy of Transportation reviewing why we're going above ground.

However, when I called the phone number on the letter and registered my distress, especially in light of the West Group stepping forward and offering to pay the difference between the above ground route and the tunnel, I got a pleasant surprise.
The person in Governor Kaine's office told me that "the fat lady has not sung yet."

There is still hope!

I am impressed with their efficiency in sending me the letter promptly and having a real person on the phone etc but, I want a tunnel through Tysons!

The person was very nice and easy to talk to so go to the Governor's state site and send him an email.  Then call the number when you get the letter and have a little chat.  I think they know sentiment is building, but we should keep it going.

Good Follow Up (Gordie - 2/9/2007 7:41:52 AM)
I did not do that after I received my letter, so good job.

Question: Did your letter say the same as what I posted and is located about 4 postings after yours?

Lee, do you recommend (Lowell - 2/9/2007 7:48:15 AM)
...that other people call Secretary of Transportation as well?  Or would that do more harm than good?

Del. Chuck Caputo had the Secretary at 2 of his Town-Hall meetings (Used2Bneutral - 2/9/2007 11:24:29 AM)
The secretary is very approachable and willing to discuss facts and details. I was really impressed with his sincerity and apparent competence. From his statements I would be very surprised if he has a closed mind on this subject, BUT he has to take his lead from his boss, Tim Kaine.  This is one topic that has to filter down from the top and that is where I would think the effort has to be focused....... Remember you have another sympathetic person directy under the Governor, the Secretary of State, Kate Hanley who is from Fairfax and very familier with the Tysons Corner issues.

Snarky comment (Lowell - 2/9/2007 7:48:45 AM)
I hope it's not too small a tunnel, how will the trains get through? :)

Maybe they'll be Republican trains (PM - 2/9/2007 9:13:59 AM)

Too bad (Hans Mast - 2/9/2007 10:25:54 AM)
Snarky comment #2: Too bad us Fascist (Think Mussolini) Republicans can't even make the trains run on time.

As long as they are really small trains (Lowell - 2/9/2007 10:34:39 AM)
Think Lionel.

The link to send the Gov. a comment (NovaDem - 2/9/2007 1:22:23 PM)

Lee Responds Before Leaving On Vacation (Lee Diamond - 2/9/2007 9:51:27 PM)
I'm kind of in a rush cause I still have to pack and do some work.  I received a form letter signed by Horner. The phone number on the letter was to the Governor's office and the letter said Office of the Governor.  It went through all the stuff about process and the decision being made.  When I called, the lady told me basically, that we had to send you something and suggested that things were too much in flux to give me an update.

She said they are looking at everything.  My sense is that there is definite movement.  I will be on my way to the Caribbean at the time of the rally, but I will be with you in spirit.

CiaoBella,
