While pretty much everyone is still trying to figure out why Republican Senator John Warner of Virginia snubbed his own bill, Democratic Virginia Senator Jim Webb took a verbal jab at his Virginia companion in the Senate, saying of Warner:

"I'm pretty disappointed that he didn't support us in having that measure come up for proper debate and a vote," Webb told reporters after he delivered his first Senate speech, which focused on Iraq.

"The other side - including some senators who had helped to draft the resolution and had put their names on it - punted the ball downfield, rather than giving the people of this country the debate they not only need, but are calling for in every public opinion poll," Webb said.

Of course, John Warner declined comment. Wouldn't want to, ya know, actually let your constituents know where you stand or anything, or perhaps WHY you voted to stall your own bill.

In Webb's first Senate speech, he accused George Bush of "woeful lack of leadership" and, according to the RTD, sought to "singe" Republicans over Monday's vote, and appeared to specifically target John Warner.

The only thing Warner could muster up was:

"We'll just have to see what the days, and the weeks, and the months, unfold," Warner said.

Right, because we haven't been doing THAT for the past four years, have we? Good grief!
