According to both the Daily Press and Not Larry Sabato, the intra-GOP "compromise" transportation plan died today, may it rest in peace.  According to both sources, the plan was defeated on an 11-4 vote.  Also according to both sources, Russ Potts' plan to raise the gas tax by 5% passed ("minutes later," according to the Daily Press) by a 9-6 vote.  Of course, any hike in the gas tax has already been declared D.O.A. by House of Delegates Flat Earth Republicans, so that means the likelihood of any significant legislation on transportation coming out of the General Assembly this year is almost as low as the temperatures are forecast to be next week.  In other words, it appears that it's time to take the "Do Nothing" General Assembly's pitiful record to the voters.  Now, who's going to play Harry Truman?

P.S.  Speaking of Potts, he's being challenged in the 27th District by Middleburg resident Mark Tate and Fauquier's Jill Holtzman Vogel.
