My profession is dying.  IT Job growth has gone from stagnation to loss.  Major software companies now employ more workers in India than in the United States.  This redefines the term "American Corporation".

Speaking Monday to reporters in Bangalore, Accenture CEO William Green said the consulting and outsourcing company will add 8,000 workers in India this year, bringing its total head count in the country to 35,000. That will surpass the 30,000 workers employed in Accenture's U.S. operations.  http://www.informati...

What can be done?  Two things.

1) Stop flooding software occupations with cheap and exploited foreign workers on the H-1b and L1 visas.  These visas are intended to serve shortages.  Our occupation has a surplus of workers.

2) Pass fair trade laws.  Stop dumping and currency manipulation by China and India.

If you aren't aware of the impact of globalization on the software profession, please read this report released by the EPI: http://www.epinet.or...

I thought only "dead' industries were leaving? (PaulVa - 1/30/2007 10:01:32 PM)
I mean, that's what we were all promised - we could trade in our work tools for laptops.  They never told us they were going to kill off the new growing industries too.

Now if we could only teleport a Happy Meal from Bangalore to Alexandria. . . .
