Today was the election for Prince William County Board Of Supervisors, Occoquan District, between Jeffrey R. Dion (D) and Michael C. May (R).  With 100% of the votes in, May wins 1,726-1,289.  Over at NLS, Ben called the race at 3:28 PM for Michael May.  Time to up his accuracy to 99.9%? Ha.

Sorry to hear that (Barbara - 1/30/2007 9:55:06 PM)
At least Jeff won my precinct.

The Tom Davis machine spreads (Kindler - 1/30/2007 10:07:31 PM)
May is a former Davis staffer.  The octopus reaches another tentacle out to Prince William...

Tom Davis and his money shows up again! (Andrea Chamblee - 1/31/2007 12:37:32 AM)
Wow, I didn't know that.  But I see from VPAP that May got $10,000 from Tom Davis Va Victory Fund. (The fund also donates to several NoVa county Republican parties.)

I see from May's bio that he works for Freddie Mac (the Federal Home Mortgage Corp.) since 1983 "where he ... is the senior vice president of mortgage sourcing, operations and funding. He is a certified public accountant and a certified internal auditor."

In December 2003, Freddie Mac disclosed that it had "violated accounting rules to smooth out its earnings growth," the kind of Enron-like accounting practices that have other people dead and in jail.

Who was responsible for the oversight of the scandal of this government entity?  You guessed it: Government Reform Chair Tom Davis. Follow the money: May gave $10,000 to the PAC. The PAC gave $8,000, to Davis, according to www.fec.gov.

"There's systemic risk and there's no oversight," says former congressman J.C. Watts (R-Okla.), who now is chairman of FM Policy Focus, a coalition of private financial institutions that is critical of some of the GSEs' current lending practices. Watts tells Insight, "It makes no difference whether [Freddie Mac's] announcement is the complete story or the tip of the iceberg, taxpayers and policymakers need to know more than Freddie and Fannie have had to reveal, and the existing regulatory framework for the GSEs is deeply flawed. I think this has to be changed to protect taxpayers, investors and the marketplace from more surprises."

More pay-to-play politics.  More work for Henry Waxman!

Wrong Mike May (Ben - 1/31/2007 1:07:20 AM)

Really? The banker lives in NoVa and has the same middle initial. (Andrea Chamblee - 1/31/2007 1:20:10 AM)
Or do you mean the Va Candidate Committee, "Friends of Mike May" is another Mike May?

definitely the wrong guy (littlepunk - 1/31/2007 9:25:40 AM)
mike may is what, 35 years old?  i certainly don't think he's been working at freddie mac for the last 24 years.  nice try - not credible, as usual.

Andrea (Kathy Gerber - 1/31/2007 1:10:19 AM)
I hope you are keeping track of all of this...

I see Ben doesn't think it's worthwhile (Andrea Chamblee - 1/31/2007 8:38:14 AM)
Ben, troll-rated me, for responding to a post about Mike May and Tom Davis with a post about - Mike May and Tom Davis.  Ben, who hands a soapbox to homophobes on his own site, and then isn't man enough to take responsibility for it, says, "I never called this a scandal"?  He has more trolls on his site than a Monty Python movie about King Arthur. I'm beginnning to think Ben wouldn't know a troll if one offered him his first b-
bite on the butt.

Friends of Mike May-corrected (Andrea Chamblee - 1/31/2007 11:21:11 AM)
Friends of Mike May got the money from Tom Davis. May's PAC seems to be related to this Michael C. May's first race.  The papers say this Michael C. May is a 30-year-old life long Virginian with expertise in Federal contracts, which would explain his connection to Tom Davis and his staff.

The Michael C. May who gave the $10K to Freddie Mac's Pac which donated to Davis also gives addresses in NoVa. Based on the comments, I began to wonder if this was the Occoquon candidate's father. He says in a bio he has 4 children. But the Freddie Mac accountant graduated ODU in 1981 and if he went right from HS that would make him make him about 44-45.  Even these days I would hope that would make him too young to be the father of a 30-year-old. (But the pictures are remarkably similar!)

I can't help but point out that this is a heck of a lot more substantiation of the mistake than what was posted by the troll raters and name callers. Don't hesitate to correct me, but fertheloveofpete stop yer name calling and just show why.

Crap (Chris Guy - 1/30/2007 10:34:29 PM)
GOP/bigots rejoice.

Thank you for running Jeff. (Rob - 1/30/2007 10:43:52 PM)

Ditto (Doug in Mount Vernon - 1/31/2007 12:46:19 PM)
I'd like to echo the thanks.

Good people like Jeff putting their hats in the ring and talking issues and getting into the community are exactly what's needed.

It didn't happen this time, but there's always another chance.

Some Well-Known and Not so Well-known (Mark - 1/30/2007 11:26:47 PM)
Republican bloggers need to see their words thrown back in their faces and scathing articles written about their smear campaign against Mr. Dion.

It's time for the gloves to come off.

Tom Davis (Susan P. - 1/31/2007 5:45:52 PM)
Speaking of Tom, smears, and bigots, where's Ed Schrock now that the Democrats have taken over Congress?
