BREAKING: Lieberman No Longer an Independent Democrat

As of Sunday, Sen. Joe Lieberman (?-CT) is officially an Independent, and will not commit to voting for a Democrat in the next election. In the past, in order to reassure to his home state's liberal tendencies, he's told Conn. voters that he's still a Democrat at heart. An 'Independent Democrat' he's called himself. But in the friendly confines of Fox News, it's a different story:

"I'm going to do what most independents and a lot of Democrats and Republicans in America do, which is to take a look at all the candidates and then in the end, regardless of party, decide who I think will be best for the future of our country. So I'm open to supporting a Democrat, Republican or even an Independent, if there's a strong one ... I am genuinely an independent. I agree more often than not with Democrats on domestic policy. I agree more often than not with Republicans on foreign and defense policy..."

Oh, so that's why he's an Independent. It's not because he lost the Democratic Primary and had no choice. THAT'S the real reason. And here I thought he was a two-face. Boy is my face red.

lieberman has succumbed to the dark side (pvogel - 1/29/2007 4:43:19 AM)
I know a person who went to high school  in connecticut with him. Ill have her call him up and yell at him.

Poor Loser (cycle12 - 1/29/2007 10:27:49 AM)
Sounds like a classic case of "poor loser" syndrome to me.  Sure, Lieberman won his re-election bid, but is he still smarting from his loss as our vice-presidential candidate and from the fact that he was never seriously considered as a presidential prospect?

Couldn't believe what I was hearing when Lieberman was commenting on the Iraq war situation on C-Span a few days ago.  He appears to be in lock step with Bush and company.

Does anyone know how this might affect our Democratic majority in the Senate?

It won't affect our majority (Chris Guy - 1/29/2007 10:35:21 AM)
Chances are Dems will pick up a few seats in the next election. So if Lieberman switched now and gave control to the GOP, he'll be right back in the minority two years from now.

Really (Gordie - 1/29/2007 11:38:11 AM)
Did anyone truly believe he would stay a Democratic supporter?

Another slime ball floating in the cesspool of national politics. Next thing you know he will be having regular lunches with George Allen.
