Many of you know Maura Keaney, who until last year blogged at Democracy for Virginia.  When I started Raising Kaine in January 2006, Maura was one of the first, and best, people I had the privilege of getting to know - dedicated, sincere, hard working, talented, smart, a great friend, you name it.  Over the past year, Maura's been living in Connecticut for family reasons.  While in the Nutmeg State where I grew up, Maura wrote for our sister SoapbBlox blog, "My Left Nutmeg" and worked for the Lamont campaign.  Now, according to My Left Nutmeg, Maura is sick and needs our help:

Many of you here have met Maura, front-page blogger and activist extraordinaire. Many more have read her penetrating Diaries.

The bad news today is that Maura is sick and, thanks to the disastrous state of healthcare in the country, needs our financial assistance.

Maura's friends at My Left Nutmeg have set up a PayPal account so you can help out Maura.  I urge everyone to do so.  Thanks.

If you go to My LeftNutmeg and click on the paypal link in the upper right, that is the one that works.

Maura impressed me so much when she spoke to Lieberman at that Irish event.

Even a few dollars helps..

The link is fixed. (Lowell - 1/28/2007 7:45:56 AM)
I don't know why you can't go directly into PayPal, but this is only one more step...

Just sent my 10.01 (Alicia - 1/28/2007 10:54:51 AM)
To one stand up Democrat.
May she get back on her feet soon.

Awesome, thanks! (Lowell - 1/28/2007 11:00:35 AM)
I'm sure Maura will very much appreciate it.

Maura is Amazing... (KathyinBlacksburg - 1/28/2007 6:52:51 PM)
Maura is amazing.  And the reason she has no health insurance is that she is a wonderful and selfless human being.  She had a teaching job (and before that a job in a software company).  But she gave it all up to help her ailing father, who later died, and mother, who was also ill at the time.  She burned through her savings, put herself at personal risk --all to help others.  All I know is she is one of the best human beings (and one of the smartest) I've ever met.  And it's an honor to know her.

It's a travesty that one should have to make a decision to have no insurance or help one's family.  Such a choice should never have to be made.  She (and all Americans) should have both the ability to keep insurance and help our loved ones.  Health insurance should come at an affordable (not-cobra) price for all.
