"Forward Together" in Maryland

Congratulations and best of luck to Martin O'Malley (D), the former mayor of Baltimore who plays in a rock band - and is thus a political "rock star," literally (ha!) - who was sworn in yesterday as the 61st governor of Maryland, our neighbor to the north and east.  Also, congratulations to Governor O'Malley for using the same slogan as our great former governor, Mark Warner: "Let us begin anew in our state, where all things are possible, where progress is every citizen's responsibility, in one Maryland, where we move forward together."  Hopefully, this will mean that O'Malley is as fine a Governor of Maryland as Mark Warner was here in Virginia.

Rock on, Governor O'Malley! :)

P.S. Apparently, defeated Governor Bob Ehrlich (R) has not quite gotten into the "Forward Together" spirit yet.  Here's Ehrich:

"A lot of what we started, what we believe in, will be undone," he said. "That's the way it is. No one will ever mistake Martin O'Malley and Bob Ehrlich."

Immediately after the ceremony, aides whisked Ehrlich away toward a waiting black sport-utility vehicle.

Maybe that's the same attitude that led Ehrlich to bash "this multicultural crap" and to come campaign for Jerry Kilgore in 2005?  Ha.

Goodbye Ehrlich, goodbye Schaefer (Andrea Chamblee - 1/18/2007 10:33:37 AM)
Long-term MD politician, Ehrilch shill and DINO William Donald Schaefer, a Democrat who lost re-election as MD comptroller, also complained about a worker he encountered at McDonald's  with poor English skills.  "I don't want to adjust to another language," he said publicly. "This is the United States. I think they should adjust to us."

Funny, when Ehrilch and Schaefer's grandparents came to the US from Germany, they didn't speak English, either.

Martin quit his band (Ingrid - 1/18/2007 11:24:50 AM)
last year to campaign.  I suggested to him that his band could help him campaign, like my band did in '03.  He had not thought about that. O'Malley (and Tim Kaine) can play with my band anytime...
