What the Hell is THIS?!?

From the Chesterfield County Republican Committee website, now comes a blast from the past -- it looks like (please, say it isn't so!) an early 20th century unflattering cartoon of an African American ? from the ?Birth of a Nation? era, perhaps?  Now what on earth could that be doing on a Republican website?  [UPDATE 7 PM:  The name of this file on the Chesterfield County Republican Committee website is "Scared%20Face.jpg" -- that's right, "Scared Face"]

Interestingly, Chesterfield County is 18% African American, but all the elected officials are white.  Ironically, when you go to the "Party History" part of the site, there's a picture of the great African-American leader, Frederick Douglass, and a quote from him saying that the Democratic Party of the late 1800s* was even worse than the Republicans.  Uh, yeah, maybe it was back then.

The only problem with this reasoning is that there have been, oh, just a FEW minor changes in America since the late 1800s* -- like the civil rights movement, Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, the Voting Rights Act and Civil Rights Act of President Lyndon Baines Johnson (D), etc.  As a result, the country isn't what it used to be, and today's Democratic Party is certainly not the segregationist "Dixiecrat" Party it used to be.  Unfortunately, today's Republican Party is not the party of Lincoln either, which is why it consistently draws only about 10% of the African-American vote.  Today, which party - the party of Barack Obama or the party of Trent Lott -- would fit that description better?  Hint:  look at this picture.

*Correction per "Karl the Idiot's" comment.  As he points out, this makes my point even more strongly.
