The Virgil Vigil begins...

You thought we were going to let the Virginia GOP just slide by silent and unbruised over Virgil Goode's constant xenophobic attacks on a fellow congressman and an entire religious faith?

Nope - the Virgil Vigil begins. Click the graphic in the right sidebar or this link to see whether your local Republican has said anything about comments like this:

I believe that if we do not stop illegal immigration totally, reduce legal immigration and end diversity visas, we are leaving ourselves vulnerable to infiltration by those who want to mold the United States into the image of their religion, rather than working within the Judeo-Christian principles that have made us a beacon for freedom-loving persons around the world.
Right now, the Virginia GOP has served up silence and a little spin. One local Republican - Allen Dudley - even gave us a nice "aw shucks, that's just Virgil being Virgil"-type statement. Lovely.

In 2007 and 2008, with most of these Republicans up for re-election, we'd like to keep track of whether they assented through silence with the xenophobia of Virgil Goode. They all endorsed and supported Virgil in the past. The Virginia Republicans must tell us whether they continue to agree with him here - or else we must assume that they still endorse and support him in his latest crusade.

Feel free to drop any updates in this or future diaries on this topic.

I just created a new post on Virgil not so Good(e) (phriendlyjaime - 1/16/2007 12:56:52 PM)
here.

Was wondering (Gordie - 1/16/2007 5:16:03 PM)
With all of Virgil's comments and him continuing his stance.

Is he running for President?

Virgil (Chester Fields - 1/16/2007 1:00:30 PM)
Virgil can't be a xenophob? No xeno's live in his district!

And he wants to keep it that way! (Lowell - 1/16/2007 1:03:11 PM)
(snark)

OH! (phriendlyjaime - 1/16/2007 1:03:55 PM)
And I hope you don't mind, but I used the pic you provided.  It's awesome.  :)

If you can link it to the diary (Lowell - 1/16/2007 1:06:39 PM)
that would be great.  Thanks.

No problem. (phriendlyjaime - 1/16/2007 1:25:31 PM)
Also, I have the link to my post at WOS in my first comment, but I reposted here on RK as well.

Thanks Jaime! (Lowell - 1/16/2007 1:38:12 PM)
Missed you at the Jim Southworth party and the Chap announcement, btw.  Do you hate NOVA, Ben, me, or what?  Ha. :)

None of you, I love you all. (phriendlyjaime - 1/16/2007 1:48:23 PM)
We just couldn't get up to NOVA that weekend.  The traffic turns us off, big time, so basically it's Virginia Republicans I hate.  ;)

BTW-the only good part about the tOSU NON-championship game was that a guy I never met came up to me and gave me a Chap bumper sticker.  :)

"So basically it's Virginia Republicans I hate." (Lowell - 1/16/2007 2:01:23 PM)
Jaime, you have the unique gift of being able to say stuff like that without pissing people off.  If I said it...OH. MY. GOD!  Ha. :)

Oh no, I piss em off too. ;) n/t (phriendlyjaime - 1/16/2007 2:11:38 PM)

How odd is it (Mark - 1/16/2007 1:36:52 PM)
that this diary should be numbered "6666"?

hahahahaha

Mark

Couldn't be more appropriate (Lowell - 1/16/2007 1:40:22 PM)
as far as I'm concerned.  That reminds me, the first three digits of my phone # growing up in Connecticut were "666." There actually were a few people in town who complained, but to this day, the "666" numbers remain.  Of course, Virgil Goode probably believes that blue-state Connecticut is where Satan resides, so again, it's very appropriate.

Didn't you all forget? (Tom Joad (Kevin) - 1/16/2007 3:13:20 PM)
The SWAC Republican coalition has already declared victory in turning the media attention away from this story...hahahaha.

It gets crazier. (phriendlyjaime - 1/16/2007 9:17:28 PM)
I couldn't help but notice today that a few ahem...choice...Republican blogs from Virginia have all posted the words "Victory in Iraq!" with graphics and quotes.  PLEASE, please don't tell me that they think that a. that is the way google bombing works, and this is how to convince the world we won a war we didn't, or b. that they can will it so.  They've actually crossed the line of pathetic and just become downright sad and frightening.

Cmon now (Eric - 1/16/2007 10:00:59 PM)
everyone knows if you say it enough times it will be true.  Look how well that stragegy works for Bush....snarksnarksnark.

Rock on, Gordie (Eric - 1/16/2007 6:48:19 PM)
Glad to see that you've brought this one up with one (are there more?) of our Delegates.  The response is interesting - does Del. Abbitt only reply to people he's seen at Republican events?

I look forward to hearing what else he doesn't have to say.

Dear Mr.

I have no comment on Virgil's statement.  He is a great congressman, and we  are fortunate to have him.

Thank you for your email.

Watkins

Prediction came true (Gordie - 1/18/2007 11:33:07 PM)
Virgil came out speaking about his legislation against the North American Union (Canada, US, and Mexico) and Lou Dobbs had a segment on Virgil and it was called excellant what Virhil was doing.

Same old thing. Short Memmories. It seem it is okay to be investgated for corruption, make Bigot remarks and Racist remarks, just so legislation is introduced that news journalist like.
