Cambodia/Laos 1970 and 1971, Iran/Syria 2007?

Does this sound familiar?  How about this? If not, perhaps you might want to review the history of this and this.

Cambodia 1970 and Laos 1971, Iran and Syria 2007?  Nixon/Bush?  Does any of this sounds vaguely familiar or what?  Or am I just imagining things when Bush says stuff like this:

Succeeding in Iraq also requires defending its territorial integrity and stabilizing the region in the face of extremist challenges. This begins with addressing Iran and Syria. These two regimes are allowing terrorists and insurgents to use their territory to move in and out of Iraq. Iran is providing material support for attacks on American troops. We will disrupt the attacks on our forces. We'll interrupt the flow of support from Iran and Syria. And we will seek out and destroy the networks providing advanced weaponry and training to our enemies in Iraq.

Sure sounds a lot like war to me.  Oh, and remember what happened to Cambodia in the aftermath of our bombing?  If not, you might want to rent this movie or read books like this.

It is very disturbing (Bubby - 1/12/2007 4:21:55 PM)
To see how much America has forgotten the mistakes, the desperation that played out in the last days of the Vietnam war.  Really the Indochina Wars, because by then we had de-stabilized the entire region, and brought war to Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam, in a failed attempt to prevail.

That is why it is so fortunate to have guys like Webb, Kerry and Hagel sitting in the Senate.  There are too many short-pants Neocons running around Washington with no clue about where this foreign policy disaster can go! And they are cheerleading for a seriously impaired president.

I am among those who consider Henry Kissinger a war criminal for his part in the illegal war in Cambodia.  I don't know how he looks at himself in the mirror every morning. To have him giving war strategy advice to the Whitehouse - is a scandal.  The man should be in prison.

Worse than Movie "Groundhog Day" (KathyinBlacksburg - 1/12/2007 4:55:01 PM)
This is real life and we keep reliving the old cast of characters (Rummy, Cheney, Kissinger, and now Fred Fielding who was a White house lawyer during the Watergate era--oh, my).

We think these guys are finally gone and they keep coming back like a bad dream.  It's enough to make someone cry a blubbering cry --like George HW Bush.  But it would be different.  HW seemed more devastated that the path for Jeb toward the White House is ruined because of Georgie's errors.  (One can only hope.)

And what is it about presidents from texas anyway (scarlatagal - 1/12/2007 6:17:53 PM)

Texans Johnson and Bush...escalation twins

Funny! (kevinceckowski - 1/12/2007 7:31:48 PM)
You made me laugh, the Presidents from Texas comment.

From the Tail-between-his-legs to the Tail-wagging-the-dog Presidents.

Don't forget in 1973 we got the War Powers Resolution (some call it Act).

We need to use it.
