Follow the Money: NRCC, Tom Davis and Jeannemarie Davis return to play in the same sandbox

From The Hill News:
The National Republican Campaign Committee (NRCC) has named Rep. Tom Davis (R-Va.) to head up its executive committee for the 2008 election cycle, according to a release yesterday.

Tom Davis resumes the same sweet deal that put him in the middle of the Abramoff scandal and allowed him to funnel over $230,000 in campaign contributions to his wife in Virginia state races.

Is it any wonder why Tom Davis voted against reforming campaign financing and lobbyist influence? Read more...
Davis, Abramoff and Delay worked on the K Street Project and Pay-to-Play politics in the NRCC after 1998 and illegally funnelled  money to sham groups, resulting in fines from the FEC. Some of that money also ended up illegally in Texas to gerry-mander the state legislature and steal the 5 House seats they needed for a majority. The way the NRCC remembers it, "During his tenure as chairman of the campaign committee, Davis defied expectations in 2002 when he expanded the Republican majority."

The NRCC is also the third largest career donor to his second wife, Jeannemarie Devolites Davis. By taking this position, Davis is situated to strong arm more national money for his wife in her tough local race against Chap Petersen.

Chief Deputy Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) will head up the NRCCGÇÖs fundraising effort ...

GÇŁEric Cantor has been a great ally and a committed supporter of the NRCC in previous cycles. He has the know-how and the contacts needed to help us raise the funds that will be vital in the next election cycle,GÇĄ Cole said.
Cantor was the top contributor in the House during the 2006 election cycle and has raised millions of dollars for the Republican Party over the last three terms, according to the release.

Thanks, Lowell. (Andrea Chamblee - 1/11/2007 12:16:11 PM)
My computer hiccuped and I couldn't add a photo; thanks for that, too.

Any time! (Lowell - 1/11/2007 12:34:46 PM)
And please keep the diaries on the Tom and Jeannemarie horror show coming.  Thanks.

This guy is slick (Rebecca - 1/11/2007 12:34:02 PM)
He voted against the reform bill, eh? Anybody surprised?

Now that we will begin to have some House Oversight (demnan - 1/11/2007 4:40:03 PM)
Maybe crooks like Davis will finally be exposed.

JDD "bristles" when people point out she campaigns on her husband's money (Andrea Chamblee - 1/11/2007 7:07:50 PM)
Devolites Davis is also married to ... Tom Davis, but bristles as the notion that she would be defined by him. “I’ve done quite well for myself before being Tom’s wife,” she says. “I’ve gotten elected four times in my own right.” But she concedes that any VA GOPer would consider having Davis as an “ally” as an asset. NOTE: She lost her election until Tom ignored his own family to become her cozy "campaign manager" in 1997.

She has already built a healthy war chest of $544K CoH, NOTE: almost all from Tom Davis and says that when the legislature gets out of session of 2/24 she’ll get back to work of trying to hit her goal of $1M. Petersen says he just wants to raise half of what she can, adding, “My wife is not a congressman.”

I think (Terry85 - 1/11/2007 6:00:42 PM)
There was an extensive article posted about this on News Hounds yesterday.  Not sure if they were talking about the same thing though...

Maybe I should rephrase that... (Terry85 - 1/11/2007 6:10:58 PM)
"There was an extensive article posted about this on News Hounds yesterday.  Not sure if they were talking about the same thing though... "

LOL, sorry, after rereading that I realize it doesn't make a lot of sense. I need to stop trying to post while doing other things.

Anyway, here is what I was referring to.
