The Other Shoe?

Bear in mind that you are dealing with a millipede....

"People were saying, 'It is not the homosexuals wrecking marriage, it's the heterosexuals,' so we are saying, 'Is there any truth to that?' " said Del. Robert G. Marshall (R-Prince William), who has filed legislation to study the effects of no-consent divorce on state marriage rates.
"You can just walk away from someone right now. There is less security in the covenant of marriage than if you and I agree to open up a hamburger joint," Marshall said."

As AHidden Saint reported on DK...

And many Virginians thought gays were the only object of his affections?

And next, perhaps:
All Virginians will attend the one true church every Sunday (and any other day of the week we deem necessary).
All Virginians will use the acceptable missionary position ONLY.
All Virginians will send their children to Jesus Camp every summer.
All Virginia women will recognize their second lord and master - their husband (who they cannot get away from)

"and then when they came for me, there was no one left to speak out"

So, any thoughts on what else Marshall would like to add to his "to-do" list before he is done?

This comes as no surprise (Catzmaw - 1/6/2007 8:42:54 PM)
After listening to all the pre-election debates it comes as no surprise that the Family Foundation is pushing this legislation.  It's annoying that Marshall is acting shocked, shocked that divorce is more of a threat to hetero marriage than gay marriage.

As for the legislation itself, as regrettable and damaging as divorce can be, sometimes it's necessary.  The legislation would not only require people to remain in loveless and often abusive marriages, but would also create far more chaos for the children of such marriages.  Instead of seeing issues resolved so everyone can move on, this legislation would require people to remain in limbo for years.

He tried to get into hetero bedrooms last year, too:

This won't pass. The hypocrisy slays me. 57% of Virginians think that not letting gays get married will help the 50% of marriages that fail, but they refuse to have those who can actually do something about it shoulder the responsibility.

Not that I disagree with you two, but I'm not so sure I wouldn't like to see a Queers Against Divorce movement.  You want one man and one woman?  Then do it.  Not one man and a series of women, or vice versa.

Some on the religious right have yet to recover from the loss of their big cash commodity: trafficking in healthy white babies.

Issues with gays, birth control, abortion, marriage all derive from those halcyon days when they bilked their membership from a perceived position of moral superiority with orphanages and homes for unwed mothers.

Question for women (CommonSense - 1/7/2007 10:44:52 AM)
I am begining to wonder if the The Family Foundation and Focus on the Family goals also include an effort to return women to their 'rightful' place.

If you look closely, many of their issues revolve around negating the progress that women have fought so hard to achieve for themselves over the past 40 years. Reading between the lines on their websites makes me question. And nervous for my daughters.

It occurs to me that this hidden agenda may be behind much of what is going on with them. One of the most frustrating things is knowing that the same old battles must be fought over and over again for simple human (male or female) justice and equality.

There were reasons for no-fault divorce, legal abortion, changes in property laws, and abuse statutes. There was a reason to allow women the vote.....

Am I off base here?

As for mutual consent divorces, I believe Jeannemarie Devolities had minor children as did her future second husband Tom when Tom began as the campaign manager for Mrs. Jeannemarie Devolites. That was in 1996-97, so their college-age children today must have been minors.

Just sayin'.
