My retirement from diaries continues to be delayed. This email was too good to keep to myself:

From the Christian Alliance for Progress:

Sign a petition to INVITE VIRGIL GOODE TO A MOSQUE.

Click and sign, and support the Alliance.  The petition will be hand delivered to Rep. Goode.  Read its email below the fold.
A diverse coalition of leaders from the Catholic, Protestant and Jewish traditions have come together to point our society towards reconciliation in the wake of the comments by Rep. Virgil Goode regarding the swearing in of now Rep. Keith Ellison of Minnesota, the first Muslim ever elected to the United States Congress.  These leaders are calling on people of every faith to stand together with our Muslim neighbors in defense of religious liberty, mutual respect and tolerance.

The comments of Rep. Goode were quite disturbing to many Americans who have long-cherished the freedom of every person to believe or not believe whatever their conscience dictates.  This is one of the bedrock principles of our society and this petition, which persons of every faith should sign, urges Rep. Goode to make public his affirmation of the importance of preserving religious toleration by attending a mosque in his district with a delegation of interfaith leaders.  By this action, Congressman Goode can show that he supports the rights of all Americans to worship as they see fit and that it is possible for any of us to live in peace with people whose views are very different from our own

Although we are committed to following the way of Jesus Christ, the Christian Alliance for Progress has taken a strong stand against using our majority status in American society to bully other faiths.  Both testaments of Christian scripture witness to the core ethical principle of our faith, which is that we want for our neighbor what we want for ourselves.  And because we don't want to be bothered by others as we practice our religion, we get very worked up when someone starts messing with the faith of other people.  Because I know you also feel this way, I hope that you will take a few seconds and sign the petition above, which we will deliver to Rep. Goode in a few weeks.  One of the petition's endorsers, Vince Isner of Faithful America actually lives in Goode's district and has offered to hand carry your signatures to Goode's office.  So let your voice be heard.  Speak up and let America know how you feel about this

Went and Disappointed (Gordie - 1/5/2007 10:16:14 AM)
in the 5th CD web site. I was disappointed not to find anything about Virgil's Koran comments. You may want to follow Nelson Counties DC lead in the 5th on that issue.
I do commend for following Viril's voting record. Too bad I did not read any mail like that during the election.

I'm sure if you offered them some help, they'd be grateful for your interest (Andrea Chamblee - 1/5/2007 10:49:27 AM)
All these groups need volunteers with their websites as well as getting out the word.

I believe it was you who wrote, "the leadership is us!"

Thanks (Gordie - 1/5/2007 1:46:44 PM)
for the suggestion. Although I do not have the time or experience to work a web site, I did send the NCDC web link to the web master and commented about getting some thing posted on their site.

Why are you retiring from the diaries? (Rob - 1/5/2007 12:51:23 PM)

Please stay (seveneasypeaces - 1/5/2007 2:13:05 PM)
Yes, Andrea, I always read you with great interest.  Doesn't Virginia have an election every year.  We need ya!!

Calling all co-authors (Andrea Chamblee - 1/5/2007 3:54:34 PM)
Thanks so much guys. But I wrote most of the diaries between midnight and 4 am and I can't keep that up any more!

With Jeannemarie Devolites Davis running against Chap!, I have info on their tag-team fundraising to use for 2007. (I'm sure that was the point Chaps made to Lisa Rein in WaPo yesterday, but as usual Rein gives more time and credit to the Davis meaningless retort than she does to the opposition. She didn't even mention the Post's own article on how Tom Davis used JDD to collect extra money from parties with business before his Committee!)

If anyone can help, please contact me!

I just signed the petition (pitin - 1/5/2007 5:02:21 PM)
thanks for the heads up Andrea.
