Would Virgil Goode and the Bigoted Bloggers Agree?

Sadly, I think that Virgil Goode and the bigoted bloggers who defend him might actually agree with this:

FBI agents witnessed possible mistreatment of the Koran at the military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, including at least one instance in which an interrogator squatted over Islam's holy text in an apparent attempt to offend a captive, according to bureau documents released yesterday.

In October 2002, a Marine captain allegedly squatted over a copy of the Koran during intensive questioning of a Muslim prisoner, who was "incensed" by the tactic, according to an FBI agent. A second agent described similar events, but it is unclear from the documents whether it was a separate case.

Imagine if this were done by Muslims to the Gospels, how would Virgil and Company feel about THAT?  Something tells me their reaction would be just a wee bit different, sort of like what happened in this incident.  Hypocrisy, thy name is Republican!

[UPDATE:  This is great; Rep. Ellison will swear his oath of office on the Koran formerly owned by one Thomas Jefferson.  You know, the same guy who wrote a version of the Gospels that "sought to separate those ethical teachings from the religious dogma and other supernatural elements that are intermixed in the account provided by the four Gospels."  Are the right wingers heads exploding yet?]

Koran Owned by Thomas Jefferson (pitin - 1/3/2007 3:13:31 PM)
The founding father, who also happened to found the University of Virginia, smack dab in the middle of Goode's district, the irony is so sweet.
