I saw this today, and strongly urge you to read it and take action!

Subject: Save the Newport News Daily Press

Hi,

Under orders from its corporate owners in Chicago, the Newport News Daily Press is slashing 26 people from its staff and ending four editions of its Local News section.

Even though the paper's corporate owners are making millions in profitst, they are forcing the Daily Press to water down its coverage of local and state news. Politicians and corporations who should be held accountable by strong watchdog journalism will instead be covered by a staff that is stretched too thin.

The Daily Press's corporate owners think they can get away with this because nobody is paying attention. But we're starting a petition to show the strong public opposition to these cuts. MoveOn Media Action is a campaign empowering regular people to fight back when news organizations abandon their journalistic duty to be a strong watchdog for the public.

Please sign the petition to the Newport News Daily Press and its corporate owners demanding the reversal of newspaper staff cuts by clicking here:

Thanks!

Again, please take action on this matter.  The Daily Press has some of the best political coverage in the state amongst the "mainstream media."  It would be a terrible loss to Virginia if this were watered down or eviscerated.  I mean, imagine someday if you had to get all your news from BLOGS?!?  The horror, the horror.  Ha ha.  Unfortunately, this is no laughing matter...please sign the petition now!

Thanks Lowell, it's been a long day.

The Daily Press is only one of a few papers in the state with regular coverage of local and state politics.  We need them.
