Echoing GOP spin, Wolf Blitzer suggests Virgil's victim is to blame

Media Matters gots the goods again:
BLITZER: Virginia Congressman Virgil Goode is warning a soon-to-be colleague, Minnesota's Keith Ellison, not to use the Quran at his swearing-in ceremony, and Goode says he wants to keep other Muslims out of the United States.

Will Goode stick to his guns?

[...]

Democratic Congressman-elect Keith Ellison of Minnesota, a Muslim, touched off controversy recently when he indicated he'd include the Quran as part of his swearing-in ceremony next month.

Who touched off a controversy? Rep. Ellison, who innocently wanted to use a Koran in his own swearing-in ceremony? Or Virgil Goode, who grasped at Ellison as an example of Goode's feared Muslim hoards in a letter to his constituents?

What do you expect from Blitzer? (Catzmaw - 1/3/2007 12:40:31 PM)
Remember, this is the same guy who used up almost all the time he had with Webb to ask him three times about his 1979 article, and when Webb finally asked if they could just please talk about foreign policy, responded by asking if Webb thought Allen was a racist.

Blitzer's a moron and he sure as hell couldn't be called a journalist.

what should we really expect... (Jambon - 1/3/2007 1:04:54 PM)
from a network that put up a graphic saying "Where's Obama" with pic of Osama Bin Laden behind.  But to be fair, didn't they flash a swastika over Dick Cheney's face a few years back by accident?  I think their control room folks are drinking on the job or something...

Good Ol' Wolf.  I wish he'd do interviews in his "natural state" like this:

No - (Rob - 1/3/2007 1:21:15 PM)
it was an "X" behind Cheney, not a swastika. That was likely an accident, the "Where's Obama" thing was obviously on purpose.

ahhh yes... (Jambon - 1/3/2007 1:28:12 PM)
now i recall that is was an "X" indeed.

i guess certain dark images just come to my mind when I think of Mr. Cheney.

CNN comment (Silver Fox - 1/3/2007 2:14:41 PM)
You can send Blitzer a comment by going to The Situation Room section on the CNN website and following the link to send him an email.  I just did.  We have got to start calling these commentators on their misstatements.  If they want to pretend to report the facts, let's yank 'em up sharply when they distort and slant.  At least we can let them know we noticed and don't like it.
