Quick Commonwealth Hits

Your New Year's Eve hits from around the Commonwealth progressisphere:

G求 Not a blog link, but a link to this story about Del. Brink's anti-robocall bill to highlight some press for Vivian!

Vivian Page, a Norfolk resident who used automated calls in her run for city treasurer in 2005, said she received a call every day at 4:30 p.m. during the last three weeks of the campaign. She defends the practice.

While people might complain about the calls, they are effective, she said. Working the polls on Election Day in Norfolk, Page talked to a number of voters who said they'd received a call from Democratic U.S. Rep. Bobby Scott, and were voting as he recommended.

G求 Chap tells us why the GOP's proposal to shift transportation responsibility to localities and other ideas are politically-motivated garbage.

G求 Go show War Room's 2007 predictions open thread some love.

G求 AMG's latest salvo against Albo highlights his role in our current transportation crisis.

G求 And Neal 2028 is back to blogging.  Keep an eye on his new blog, Southwest Progress.

And this is an RK open thread - what's on your mind today?

I am a HUGE sports fan and it recently came to my attention that Tiki Barber, pictured in the photo...a UVA grad and also graduate of Cave Spring High in Roanoke.... is considering politics after retirement ( which could be this year). I was also told he may be a Republican. Please tell me this "ain't so". ;-( Can we recruit him if it isn't true???

Also since you post pictures of Virginia athletes on your Commonwealth Quick Hits...consider posting one of Brandon Inge ( Brookville High/VCU/Detroit Tigers 3rd baseman). His wife is a committed, hard working Democrat and worked to help Jennifer Granholm get elected when they first moved to Michigan! Brandon and Shani Inge are friends of my daughter and son-in-law!

Thanks and Happy New Year!

Tiki (Rob - 12/31/2006 2:42:12 PM)
I wonder if the rumors about him being a Republican are because he's a regular on Fox and sometimes echos their talking points.  If that's all, I chalk that up to him being a novice in the TV arena and trying to get along with his co-hosts on the Fox morning program.

At least, that's what I hope!

Two requests for you, Martha:

1. Can you explain why he thinks he'll get into politics?

2. Can you post a link to your favorite Brandon Inge photo?

Thanks for reading!
Rob

Tiki and Brandon (martha - 12/31/2006 5:39:13 PM)
There are great photos of him on the Tigers web site. You can pick one ( just not the one where he strikes out to end the world series ;-( I don't have a scanner so I can't send personal photos I have of him.

I heard that Tiki was interested in politics from an athletic trainer friend in the Charlottesville area who has connections to UVA. He is so sharp!

On my mind: misspellings (Vivian J. Paige - 12/31/2006 2:33:20 PM)
Thanks for the link to that story. I guess I was the only one who would go on record about that. Anyway - it would be nice if the reporter had spelled my last name right :(

No kidding! (Rob - 12/31/2006 2:38:51 PM)
It's not like he couldn't have found you on the Internet!

Just another one week reminder, Blogger Gathering next Sunday (Used2Bneutral - 12/31/2006 6:20:22 PM)
I鈥榲e been hearing from a bunch of people and "electeds" who have re-confirmed they will be coming to the Bloggers Social "Gathering" and TV show on next Sunday January 7th at our studios in Merrifield Virginia from 3 PM until 8 PM (the TV show is "Live" from 6:30 to 7:30). Ben Tribbet (NLS)and Kenton Ing (750 Volts) confirmed earlier as well as a bunch of others that will be available as they were back in September for a on-air panel discussion during the TV segment..  The "electeds" and announced candidates are real interested in meeting many of the Blogosphere inhabitants.  They have seen what was done for Kaine and Webb as well as the difference that blogging has made to Virginia politics in general.  I talked personally to Jim Webb and his Chief of Staff and both confirmed they will make every effort to attend since this allows them to meet with so many of us all at once. This should also be an open date because of the start of Congress the week before and the annual activities in Richmond the business week after our 鈥淕athering鈥....

I have had several interesting discussions with several of our more frequent bloggers whom frequently post on RK and many of the more frequently visited Virginia Blogs. Personally, I think of all those who even only "Lurk" are still an important part of the over all Blogosphere. Especially when they show up to help with campaigns and also help destroy lies and rumors with the speed of the Internet.

Those who wish to stick around for the TV show segment will have the option of 鈥渓urking鈥 in the live audience or for a few to sit on the panel that will be moderated by Mark Levine.

Please RSVP if you can and also include whether you will be able to stick around for the 鈥淟ive鈥 TV show so we can make sure we have enough chairs set up in the studio and some light refreshments in the conference room congregating areas of the studios. But, this is intended to be a very informal 鈥淕athering鈥 and gate crashing is encouraged鈥. This should be fun and maybe the last activity of this type for several months as we move toward state level activities in the late spring鈥..

Directions to the studio can be found at this web site, http://www.fcac.org/...

The email for RSVP is JimS@FCAC.org and the telephone for anyone having trouble finding the studios is 571-749-1111鈥.

From the number and diversity of the people who have confirmed, this should be a lot of fun and a rare chance to put a face with a blog handle鈥︹
