Here's an open thread on this slow news day as many make it back home...

Need a topic to discuss? I haven't seen any Virginia Republicans comment on Virgil Goode's xenophobic letter. Assuming I haven't missed something, who do you think will be first? ("Nobody" is certainly an option.)

I've gotta think... (Rob - 12/26/2006 5:49:53 PM)
that Tom Davis will have to say something soon.  Probably will issue some wishwashy statement this week.

Or maybe he'll just hope this whole thing blows over...

Just a reminder about the Blogger "Gathering" on the 7th in NoVa (Used2Bneutral - 12/26/2006 9:03:42 PM)
Hey gang,
Diary Bloggers, posters, and just general “Lurkers”, Please remember to set aside 2 weeks from this past Sunday... On the afternoon of Sunday January 7th there will be a Virginia State (very informal) Blogger “Gathering” in Merrifield/Fairfax Virginia at the TV studios of Fairfax Public Access ( http://www.fcac.org/... ).

The informal “gathering is scheduled from 3 PM to 6 PM and immediately followed by a live TV show from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM that will be cable-cast, web-cast, and recorded for replay on demand/Pod-cast as well as on to DVDs. The studios are being made available free by the FPA members who crew the “TV Inside Scoop” show who have already done 80 live democrat oriented shows to date.  This will be their first new Sunday Night “Live” show.  They also produce a similar political debate show on Monday nights from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM already that has gotten national recognition.

I personally asked both Jim Webb and his Chief of Staff at the Connolly Party a couple of weeks back and both thought that Jim would be able to attend some part of the activity.  He was especially interested in the fact that this would be an opportunity to meet with a good sized group of specifically “Bloggers” and their associates who were so important to his campaign.

Several (over a dozen) other “electeds” and candidates for office this election cycle have confirmed and will be present to personally meet and greet the members of the Blogosphere.  I have had very good response from the Virginia State crew, because this is their last weekend before they go full tilt in Richmond by mid-week.  Jim Webb and our new US Congress also starts real work on Monday the 8th in DC.

So far many of the usual characters from RK and NLS have committed by email that they will be attending.  Ben, Teacher Ken, Eric, Kenton, and several others have personally called me or emailed me that they will be there including for the TV segment.  The TV show we did back in September with Ben and Kenton has continued to get regular viewings weekly….

All sorts of people complained that they couldn’t make weekday gatherings and parties AND that there were bunches of holiday parties that also conflicted. So here is a perfect opportunity to get together socially with the rest of the gang on a day that should be easier for travel for those who have indicated they may be coming from Blacksburg, Richmond, C-ville as well as Tidewater. There are plenty of hotels and restaurants very close by the studios and the location is very convenient to most all the major highways. The activity is long enough to justify the long drives that some people have indicated they were willing to make for something substantial even if it is informal.

This should be a lot of fun and a chance to kick off the earliest activities of the 2007 election cycle.  Please RSVP if you can, but don’t let that stop you from coming if you can….

Too Conservative (Mamiska - 12/27/2006 1:06:28 PM)
the Gentleman over at www.tooconservative.com  posted the only thing I have seen, and I thought it was surprisingly frank and contrite.  You can read the whole thing at that website under "In the Bleak Midwinter", but here is a snippet:

"So now I’m back and I’ve been cruising the OBDA and other old standards trying to figure out what folks are thinking and doing.  One thing that surprises me immensely is how little comment I’m seeing on Virgil Goode’s remarks on the relationship between using the Koran in swearing-in ceremonies to Immigration policy.  This got a good deal of press and media coverage in Europe as another indication that we’re all morons (they don’t understand over there that elected officials are not always selected to mirror their constituencies).  I thought our usual blogs would be afire with this.  Is it just too embarrassing and stupid to talk about?  Or have I not gotten around to the right places? (perhaps the liberal blogs are full of this -they’re usually way down my list of stopping points when I’m scrambling to catch up)  Or are we hoping it will just go away before someone thinks Republicans other than Mr. Goode think like this (as if we didn’t have enough to worry about already)?"

He evidently doesn't read the more liberal leaning blogs if he thinks it hasn't been discusse!
