Even though Dave Matthews has been very politically involved in progressive movements. He have never given money to any candidate. Until 2006.
Matthews member of the famed music band "Dave Matthews Band" has been a performer for Change for America Tour, spokesperson for the ONE campaign, and endorser of Howard Dean for President in 2004.

But in 2006, Matthews finally gave to a candidate. Who was this candidate. Jim Webb. Today while searching through NEWSMEAT a online site where you can search of donations by individuals I stumbled upon Dave Matthews donations.

Three separate checks for $2,100 to Webb For Senate.

Dave Matthews rocks. In 2004, after the Democrats lost the Presidential election. He released an album with a few progressive tracks. One of these songs, "American Baby" describes how the American people have lost their way be re-electing George W. Bush. Although that wasn't said in the video this was Matthews intent.

Matthews was raised as a Quaker (teacherken - 12/23/2006 4:03:19 PM)
and while he may label himself as an agnostic now, he has had a commitment that probably derives from his Quaker roots.  Haverford College gave him an honorary degree a few years ago.  Here is the description of the reason the College gave him that award (for which he was one of four recipients, among the others of whom that year was Mollie Ivins):
The South African vocalist/guitarist Dave Matthews formed the Dave Matthews Band in Virginia in the early '90s. The group's music represents a synthesis of pop-oriented and worldbeat traditions and has produced a series of hugely successful recordings and concerts. Matthews is also deeply committed to preserving music education in schools, to environmental education, and to humanitarian works, and he has established the Bama Works Foundation to carry through on this promise. He has also been a leader in promoting public discussion on the role of the media and government in controlling artistic work. Dave Matthews is a Quaker.

He was there (CrellMosetArisen - 12/24/2006 12:09:18 AM)
at the Grisham/King fundraising event (along with Boyd and Carter).  He was wearing a purple crushed-velvet suit - it was fantastic.

How 3 checks? (FredFred - 12/24/2006 5:49:26 PM)
First check - $2100 for the primary
Second check - $2100 for the general

What's the third check for?  Did he write one post-election?  If it was pre-election how was that legal?

He was very interactive at the Grisham/King event in C'Ville (Pete in Williamsburg - 12/25/2006 10:09:01 PM)
Not only did he attend, he was a high-level donor attending the VIP reception which requires a pretty high entry fee.  Also, after the event, he was mobbed by autograph seekers and those wanting a photo.  He stuck around for minimum of one hour for all of those fans.  Very gracious and obviously in no rush to leave the company of Webb supporters.

Im glad... (novademocrat - 12/26/2006 3:53:09 PM)
That my ticket buying of Dave Matthews is going to a good spot!  I guess Ill suck up the increase in prices over the last 9 years of seeing him in concert for his contributions to Jim Webb!!
