Stay the course?

Please read George W. Bush's most recent statements about the Iraq war and his plans for resolving it at these Washington Post links:

And there was this one... (cycle12 - 12/20/2006 6:02:08 AM)
...also from the WP:  http://www.washingto...

This certainly still sounds like "stay the course" to me...

Your opinions, please.

Thanks again!

Steve

Iraq is Arabic for Vietnam (buzzbolt - 12/20/2006 8:09:38 AM)
Lies got us into Vietnam and it took 15 years to get out -- we were NOT winning when we left!!

Agreed, "buzzbolt" (cycle12 - 12/20/2006 8:56:08 AM)
I collect political bumper stickers, and one of my favorite (but perhaps saddest and most poignant) ones reads the same as your comment title:  IRAQ IS ARABIC FOR VIETNAM

Another one of my favorites reads:

I NEVER THOUGHT I'D MISS NIXON

So true, so true...

Thanks!

Suggestion (Rob - 12/20/2006 10:35:19 AM)
Cycle - you have a good sense for sharing important news links, but I'd love to see you develop full diaries with commentary (I've seen your comments in other diaries and know that you've got that ability) and sharp formatting (like blockquotes and embedded links).

I'd love to be frontpaging your diaries once they become more fully developed with your thoughts and improved formatting.

Thanks!
Rob

I'll do my best, Rob... (cycle12 - 12/20/2006 11:05:04 AM)
...but when I don't fully develop a theme or a thought, it's usually just a matter of time constraints more than anything else.

For example, my lengthy and well-received "Three Musketeers" piece consumed most of a weekend to assemble.

Now, for the first time in four years, both our sons will be home for Christmas - priorities, priorities...

Plus, what the heck are "blockquotes" and "embedded links"?  My ignorance is significant.

So much to learn here in the rarefied air of the political blogosphere...

But I certainly appreciate the encouragement and will do my best.

Thanks again!

Steve

Here you go... (Rob - 12/20/2006 12:09:19 PM)
a link that on blockquotes, etc.

I understand about the time constraints, of course. Even just a line or two of commentary (plus the formatting in the link) - an extra minute or two of typing - would be very welcome.

Anyway, I appreciate you spending precious time on here. I mean these constructive suggestions with all due respect for your time and effort.

Where can we find.. (buzzbolt - 12/20/2006 11:06:30 AM)
a tutorial on formatting with typical html examples??

here's one (Rob - 12/20/2006 12:09:34 PM)

I like what Murtha (Gordie - 12/20/2006 10:39:17 AM)
told Wolf on CNN. Wolf said to John " the President said" John shot back all the lies Bush had said before and then ended "because he said it, it does not make it true".

Bush can say all he wants, but if we have a strong congress they will make the ICE melt. We all knows he caves under pressure. He also will blame the congress, which they already know.

Up until some time in 2006 I was able to read and listen to what GWB had to say, but now all I read is the headline and know he will be saying the same he has said since 2001. Most predictable failed politican I have ever heard.

What would a "win" look like ? (hereinva - 12/21/2006 4:33:21 PM)
I have listened to talking heads discuss "winning" in Iraq.
Still do not know what we win or even what the win would "look" like. What do the Iraqi people win ?
I understand what we have been losing: precious lives, time, and billions of dollars in "re-contruction" efforts. In war terms..its easy to understand "winning" WWII. There was defeat of an identifiable enemy, there was a surrender, signed treaties, reconstruction, reconciliation and closure. Not certain that sort of "win" really fits Iraq.
Our men and women serve honorably keeping Iraq from collasping into chaos...but that is more maintainance and containment than "winning". Will the "way forward" be more of the same ?
