Monday Funnies: The Best of Jim Traficant

I just ran across this hilarious video montage of former Representative James "Jim" Traficant

Break out the popcorn folks cause this stuff is great!

Traficant was expelled from the House (not the Senate.  thank you Teacherken!) a few years back and is currently serving an 8 year prison sentance.  But what really made this guy stand out (aside from having hair that puts Larry Sabato's toupee to shame) were the off the wall comments he made while he was testifing in front of the House Ethics Panel.
Here are some more classic Traficant quotes:

"Who are the trade advisers at the White House, a bunch of proctologists?"

"Why are we proceeding? I have to go to the bathroom!"

"I yield back the fact that we have a Tax Code that would give Hulk Hogan a hernia."

"Allowing the IRS to reform themselves would be like allowing Jeffrey Dahlmer to head up the Boy Scouts."

"If you don't get those cameras out of my face, I'm gonna go 8.6 on the Richter scale with gastric emissions that'll clear this room!"

"You're looking at the No. 1 target of the Justice Department, and I hate those bastards. The FBI can go to hell. I'm the son of a truck driver, and I cut my hair with a weed whacker. Does anybody have a friggin' cough drop? Where's my denim suit? I think it's time to do my Michael Jackson moonwalk on the House floor."

Now that is one fine example of civility in politics!

thanks for catching that teacherken.

Tough not to like him (relawson - 12/19/2006 10:54:49 PM)
He is flamboyant - and quite a character.  I never did see a video of trafficant offering to take money at a later date.  I can't say the same about Murtha.  Like Murtha, he always did what he thought was good for his district.

I would argue that behaving that way in Congress is probably not good for your district.  Guess it's the tought that counts.

The Best of Jim Traficant (Truthilizer - 2/1/2007 3:25:57 AM)
It's all well and good to have a tricksy titters attack over Traficant's penchant for having been the House drama queen, but, that man is languishing in prison because he dared to talk truth to power.  How many here have read the court transcripts, one-by-one, or are aware that he was not allowed to present exculpatory evidence at the kangaroo court presided over by a judge who should have recused herself because of a conflict of interest?  A number of witnesses who testified against Traficant have since come forward to testify they were pressured to give false testimony against Traficant.  Shouldn't this also arouse some curiosity to go back and revisit his case?  I invite you to visit 'Congressman James Traficant - Can & Will' at http://truthilizer.l... for updates.

I admit Traficant is quite a character, but to be honest with you - I'm into drama - and he fits the fix for me in that regard ;>  With his animated, soulful renderings of all that's-wrong-with-the-.gov along with his painful punful attempts, malapropisms, and sword work on the English language is what I'm looking for in my congresscritters!  Especially if it's truthful and honest.  In other words, he convinced me that he believed what he said while speaking on the floor of the House.  And, to be fair, he's divulged some sneaky things the .gov is and has been doing over the years.  He's put his neck on the edge of the .gov guillotine several times for us People, dontcha think?  If nothing else, leave some words of encouragement for Traficant at the above site.  It'll get to him ;>
