Chris Cillizza, writer of Washingtonpost.com's politics blog: The Fix is highlighting the 2008 Virginia Senate Race.

Should John Warner drop out of the running for a 6th term or should Mark Warner decide to run. Or in a rematch, both it should be an interesting race here in Virginia.

Also mentioned in his blog to possibly run are Democrats, Creigh Deeds and Leslie Byrne.

The Republicans he mentioned were George Allen, Bob McDonnell, Tom Davis, & Jim Gilmore.

If Mark Warner decides to get in this, I wish all the other candidates in both parties the best of luck! Come on Mark, you know you want to join Jim Webb in the U.S. Senate!

Very Nice Article... though i don't understand why Leslie Byrne would run for the Senate when she has an open shot at the 11th (and she would be one hell of a congresswoman)!

2008 VA Dems (drmontoya - 12/8/2006 10:49:37 AM)
I really like all of them mentioned, Deeds, Byrne, & M. Warner.

But, I agree with The Fix if Mark Warner decides to run it's going to be tough for any Republican including the incumbent to keep his job. Especially with John Warner's age, his party, and the direction our country is going.

If John Warner runs, I think he (summercat - 12/8/2006 11:17:49 AM)
has a lock on it.  I'd rather see Mark Warner as VP to a Wes Clark candidacy, or as Governor in the next term.  If the latter, and if a Demo won in 08, Warner would be a great Sec. of Commerce for a year, imo.
