Democrats Cheer For Victory At Quarterly DPVA Meeting

On a bright sunlit day in Staunton, Virginia, hundreds of Democrats, both members of the Central Committee and others, cheered wildly about the victory of Senator-Elect Jim Webb.

Oh yeah, some other stuff happened.

Chairman Dickie Cranwell opened the meeting with the Call to Order and the Pledge of Allegiance. He introduced Woodrow Wilson, whose Presidential Library is in Staunton.

Join me on the other side for that and a whole lot more.

A man whose name I unfortunately have forgotten interprets Woodrow Wilson. He was outstanding. He gave a short speech with relative subject matter to today. Afterwards, he took his hat off and introduced himself. He then invited all of us and our families to the museum and library, which is located in Staunton, only a few blocks from the Stonewall Jackson Hotel where the meeting was taking place.

Mr. Cranwell was next, with some opening remarks of his own. He thanked everyone sincerely for all the efforts, not only for Jim Webb, but for all the House candidates as well.

Creigh Deeds and part of his fan club

Brian Moran, Creigh Deeds and Shawn O'Donnell all gave rousing speeches to invigorate the faithful.

Larry Roberts, Counsel to the Governor, gave a few remarks about the great strength of the party and how the Governor would like to see it go further. He passed along the best wishes and thanks from the Governor to all of us.

Larry Byrne and Dickie Cranwell enjoy a moment before the meeting.

Amy Reger, Executive Dorector of the Virginia Democratic Party, asked her staff to say a few words about their jobs and the future projects that are starting. One thing very interesting to me is the presentation given by the Director of Research, whose name is Greg (I can't find his last name and it isn't listed on the website). He showed the now-famous clip of George Allen flushing his future in the macaca incident, and some hilarious footage of several Republican Legislators (including Marshall) while at work in the General Assembly. He is asking that anyone with tips, stories or information get in contact with him.

After Jim Turpin, (finance) Jennifer McClellan (the new board member) (outreach), and Justin Wilson (technology) made their reports, it was time for announcements.

Various parties and events were announced, including Gerry Connolly's Thank You Party in Fairfax for all the Webb volunteers. Jim Webb will be there.

All in all, a great day in Staunton. After the meeting, some friends from the 5th District went to lunch together. We had a guest, Senator Creigh Deeds and his Political Director. I highly recommend 'Cranberries' on New Street for yummy natural foods, herbs and great sandwiches.

The picture of the downtown -- very artistic -- and the guy playing Woodrow Wilson.

If you could get those hilarious clips of Del. Marshall and others . . . might be amusing.

Thanks for the report.  It's important to see "Who's Who" around the state.

Thanks (Mark - 12/3/2006 12:15:29 PM)
PM for the compliment on the pictures.

It was a great day in Staunton, and a great day for Democrats.

Thanks again.

Research staffer is Greg Scanlan (Nell - 12/3/2006 11:15:10 AM)
or Scanlon (I haven't seen it in print).  He has a wicked sense of humor.

His project is a schedule of all Republican candidate appearances (hearings, fundraisers, public events), so that Dem volunteers can attend and document.  Those interested in attending events or who have appearances to add to the schedule should get in touch with him (I assume calling the DPVA would get you Greg's e-mail address).

Thanks for commenting. Greg Scanlon sent me an email this morning. His email address is greg@vademocrats.org

Thanks again.

Great Pics (drmontoya - 12/3/2006 12:51:47 PM)
Maybe we can get some of these guys to Live blog to rev up support for future campaigns.

Just a thought?
