Blogging on TV

[UPDATE: A number of local elected officials, including Jim Webb, have indicated that they will try to attend this event.  With everything going on right now their schedules are subject to change, but there is a good chance you can chat with some of our elected officials as well as fellow bloggers this Sunday.]

[UPDATE 2:Unfortunately it appears that there is an overlap with this event and Chap's Va Senate race kickoff.  Due to timing it is possible to attend both events, but will require some juggling.  If you just can't make up your mind, give it a shot - that's my plan.]

In late September Mark hosted his first show on Virginia blogging, with Ben Tribbett (Not Larry Sabato) and Kenton Ngo (750 Volts) to discuss the pending elections.  The show went over very well and now that the elections are over, Mark is putting together a second show about blogging and politics.

The Details

Sunday January 7th, 2007

The show airs live from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM

The pre-show gathering will begin at 3:00 PM.

Location:
  2929 Eskridge Road, Merrifield, VA
  Directions
  FCAC website

For those of you who have not seen "Mark Levine's TV Inside Scoop" (shown on Fairfax County Public Access television), or heard the daily radio broadcasts, Mark Levine's shows are an entertaining and enlightening look into local, regional, national, and international politics.  Mark is a strong Democrat but has always welcomed guests of any political persuasion onto his show to debate and discuss current events and all things political.

BTW - a very belated congratulations to both Ben and Kenton for fantastic commentary and analysis during their first visit to the Inside Scoop.  Check out the entire show on google video.

All bloggers are invited to be part of the audience for this live broadcast.  For those of you who'd like to take it one step further, Mark will also have a panel of guest bloggers (check out Ben and Kenton in the video for what that's like).

There will also be a pre-show gathering at the Fairfax County Public Access studios for anyone and everyone who would like to get together to celebrate the Democratic victories this year and put faces to names for those bloggers you haven't met.

If you are interested, or would like more information, please contact Jim at JimS@NoVa.org.  RSVP is highly encouraged.  If you would like to be a guest, please indicate in your RSVP.

For those of you who are too far the show will be broadcast live over the internet and available for download afterward.  The URL is not available right now, but we will let everyone know when we get it.

This is great - (Rob - 11/30/2006 5:14:03 PM)
thanks for posting this Eric.  Great for the VA blogosphere.

Everybody said they wanted a weekend party..... (Used2Bneutral - 11/30/2006 5:39:01 PM)
By combining the party with the show we got free facilities available and the right kind of environment for the Blogging community..... I've talked to several elected officials whom are very interested in the very positive and amazing contribution those of us in the Blogosphere helped make these past two years and they want more of the same for their up-coming campaigns in 2007 to take back the House of Delegates etc. I fully expect at least as many as a dozen different elected officials to stop by and meet and greet those who make it to at least the party.  I have put the formal requests into Jim Webb's office too as well DPVA officials to participate.

By this being a Sunday afternoon activity and just after the holidays it should be a good time.... the New Congress will have just opened sessions on the 4th and the Richmond Crowd will be getting ready to go at it the following week.  Perfect timing to talk to the "movers and shakers"

Wonderful opportunity (Silver Fox - 1/2/2007 5:58:53 PM)
What a wonderful opportunity for those of us who live up here in NoVa.  I consider myself mostly a "lurker" and certainly not an experienced blogger but I'm planning to go.  I think blogs are going to play a major role in the 2007 and then 2008 elections and I want to learn more, how to be effective and supportive.  And it will be good to be able to put some faces with the names I see on the various diaries and comments.

Great to hear! (Eric - 1/2/2007 6:50:51 PM)
And I'm sorry that this is a NOVA event that is so far for many others who were involved in blogging and the elections.  It would be great if it were more central, but a TV station can't be moved for such an event.

I do believe that the event will be available to the rest of Virginia via the internet - or at least that's the plan.  And the call-in phone lines will allow those who can't make it to call in questions if they'd like to participate.

I might try to make it, too (Catzmaw - 1/7/2007 11:20:24 AM)
The lurkers need representation :)

Looking forward to seeing you there (Used2Bneutral - 1/7/2007 11:50:49 AM)
We still have had confirmation from numerous electeds and lots of bloggers still coming from all over the state.....

I talked to Chap yesterday at the Morris Myer announcement and he expects that some of our audience will be spending some time at his activity and then will come back to the station in time to make the 6:30 Live TV show.  The two activities are only 5 miles apart......

OBTW, this is a "Lurker Enabled" gathering  :)

Let's caravan/carpool between Chap and Cable. (Andrea Chamblee - 1/7/2007 2:35:23 PM)
It should be easy -- follow the "Democratic" bumper stickers.

I was invited a while ago (teacherken - 1/2/2007 7:04:41 PM)
and spoke with Mr. Southworth on the phone, who said there would be more info forthcoming directly, although I have not yet seen the additional information.  I have been told that I am listed as one of the guest bloggers.  I would like confirmation, as if I am not a participant but only an audience member there is a possibility that there might be other events that day in which I'd be participating over on Capitol Hill.

Ken, I just forwarded you....... (Ambivalent Mumblings - 1/2/2007 7:09:20 PM)
......an email some of us received a few days ago.

I'll be there........ (Ambivalent Mumblings - 1/2/2007 7:05:15 PM)
This should be a great event and I look forward to seeing everyone there.

Sorry not to make it. (Kathy Gerber - 1/7/2007 3:56:58 PM)
Other duties call, but it sounds like fun so I hope you all will write it up.

I can't either, Kath. (phriendlyjaime - 1/7/2007 4:13:14 PM)
We hoped to, but we just cannot get out for a long period of time plus driving North tonight.  We'll be there in spirit.  :)

Hey-I need your blog name and Mark's blog name, btw.  Thanks.

Here (Kathy Gerber - 1/7/2007 4:40:28 PM)
Mark is http://heartlandofvi...

Don't put mine - it's not a secret, but just a place holder. We had a raccoon incident that ought to go there, but that's it.

Me either (KathyinBlacksburg - 1/7/2007 8:24:28 PM)
Although I had RSVP'd to attend, at the last minute, I was unable to drive up to NOVA.

I am really sorry to miss this.  My regards to all who made it...and those who couldn't.  Tomorrow I'll blog some thoughts.

I've been away and not real visible these past couple of weeks.  But I have some material in the works, so will be "back" on RK  very shortly.
