In an op-ed piece in today's Washington Post, George Will blasts Senator-elect James Webb for a number of things based on a recent reported verbal exchange between Webb and George W. Bush.  A lot of points have been reported about the incident, many of which are second hand, but George Will would have us believe that he was present and outraged by Webb's lack of civility.

George Will:

Webb certainly has conveyed what he is: a boor.  Never mind the patent disrespect for the presidency.  Webb's more gross offense was calculated rudeness toward another human being--one who, disregarding many hard things Webb had said about him during the campaign, asked a civil and caring question, as one parent to another.

Earth to George Will:  James Webb, by all reports, made every effort to avoid any personal contact with George W. Bush.  Webb displayed immense calculated restraint to prevent any exchange.  No one except George W. Bush and James Webb can evaluate whether the question was civil, caring, or human.

George Will continues:

(Webb).. might consider this:  In a republic, people decline to be led by leaders who are insufferably full of themselves.

Earth to George Will:
Let me try to make this as civil as I can.  When did we decline to be led (for the last six years) by George W. Bush and Dick Cheney?
