Nancy Pelosi is showing exceptional leadership abilities in the early going.  According to the Post, she has rejected both Hastings and Harman as head of the House Intelligence Committee.http://www.washingto...
Harman has been too friendly to the Bush position on some matters, and Hastings' past ethics problems in my opinion made him a poor choice in the context of Pelosi's pledge to run a clean Congress.  I've read conflicting opinions on what Hastings did in the past; most people say he has been a very good congressman, however.  I think Pelosi made the right call simply because public perception is important at this stage of the game.  She also did the right thing is removing William Jefferson from House Ways and Means.

The Post discusses these possible candidates:

Instead of picking Harman or Hastings, Pelosi will look for a compromise candidate, probably Rep. Silvestre Reyes (Tex.), but possibly Rep. Norman D. Dicks (Wash.), a hawkish member of the Appropriations defense subcommittee, or Rep. Sanford Bishop (Ga.), a conservative African American with experience on the intelligence committee.

Nancy Pelosi is on track to be one of the great Speakers of the House.

All this brew ha ha - and Harmons term and eligibity was over per the House rules.

Norm Dicks - EXCELLENT choice.  I leave at Fort Lewis for 5 years - Dicks is a great guy.

Of course during those five years (totallynext - 11/29/2006 3:49:30 PM)
