Jim Webb Press Conference at 4:15 PM; Open to the Public

From the Webb campaign...

We did it.

Thanks to efforts of you, our tireless volunteers, we were able to defy the odds.  On Tuesday Virginia sent a message to Washington and delivered the Senate to the Democratic Party by electing Jim Webb as the next Senator from our great Commonwealth.  Throughout this campaign you made hundreds of thousands of phone calls, wrote letters to friends and neighbors, knocked on countless doors, and got every last vote out.  You should all be very proud and know that you will have the everlasting thanks of Jim Webb and the entire Webb Campaign.

I also want you all to know that today, Jim will be making his first public appearance since the election.  He will hold an open press conference today in Arlington and I would like to invite you all to come and show your support for VirginiaGÇÖs new Junior Senator.

Thank you,
Larry Byrne
Field Director GÇô Webb for Senate

Today!

WHAT: Senator-elect Jim Webb Press Conference open to the public

WHERE: Courthouse Plaza
2100 Clarendon Blvd
Arlington, VA
Just off the Orange Line GÇô Court House Stop

WHEN: 4:15 PM, today

I will TRY to be there (teacherken - 11/9/2006 1:29:21 PM)
but I have tons of school related stuff, so if I don't make it, I will be there in spirit.

I tried to be there! (Ingrid - 11/9/2006 6:58:58 PM)
It's Missy's fault!  She made me travel to Maine, so I missed the press conference...  Congratulations to Jim and everyone who has been there for him!!

Congrats (Chester Fields - 11/9/2006 1:38:11 PM)
This proves once and for all the power of the Internet
A Campaign started by the Internet ,Changed by the Internet, Won by the Internet

Remember too that some of us who live far from Virginia (walkabout - 11/9/2006 1:41:18 PM)
gave whatever we could to support this effort.  We have kept the faith and that spirit has held up the campaign.

Thanks to all of you on the ground.  The country is grateful for what you've done.

Thanks from Virginia (thegools - 11/9/2006 6:38:09 PM)
we could not have done it without you and others like you.

I cross-posted this on Gen. Wes Clark's blog along with the information about Allen's 3:00 PM concession news conference:

I have been waiting for this day for a long time!

Next stop... (vote-left - 11/9/2006 1:48:00 PM)
...for Webb:

The Colbert Report  :)

Colbert (phriendlyjaime - 11/9/2006 1:56:01 PM)
is going to be all over this.  Apparently, everyone (now) that went on his show won their race, and Jim Webb ANNOUNCED his candidacy on Colbert.

Sent a letter to Colbert (DanG - 11/9/2006 5:06:16 PM)
I sent a letter to Colbert requesting a second interview with Senator-elect Webb.  I think it would be great to have Webb on Colbert again, and show the difference between the two interviews.

I can make it (Jambon - 11/9/2006 1:51:51 PM)
are we in need of people holding signs etc?  If so I'll see if I can't bring a few people with me.

Sure, come on down! (Lowell - 11/9/2006 2:15:01 PM)
:)

press conf (Arlington Mike - 11/9/2006 2:09:06 PM)
Couple questions - am trying to figure out whether I can sneak out of work for this or not:

Will there be anyone else speaking ahead of Senator-elect Webb?  Is there a sense of whether this will start right at 415pm or not?

WaPo: (mkfox - 11/9/2006 2:11:22 PM)
Allen will conceded at 3 today. CNN reports that an Allen aide has said Allen is "shellshocked" and going through a "nightmare." Wow is his pride taking a beating.

Politics is a rough, nasty business (Lowell - 11/9/2006 2:18:28 PM)
No wonder why so many good Americans don't want to get involved with it!  With that in mind, I wish George Allen well in his future endeavors and thank him for his service to our country.

Wish Allen well OUT of politics (b crowe - 11/9/2006 2:43:41 PM)
I must insist that George Allen stay out of politics. At the very least, my fellow citizens and I want our politicians to promote tolerance and racial equality. There are plenty of jobs Allen can do outside of politics where his racial prejudice will not affect the basic rights of the people of Virginia.

Nightmare - interesting wording (Eric - 11/9/2006 2:31:49 PM)
"Allen's Worst Nightmare" was used frequently during the earlier stages of the campaign.

Shell shocked? (madgranny - 11/9/2006 2:55:45 PM)
What rock has he been under? Besides isn't "shell shocked" a military term?  How can that apply to Allen?

Sweat (seveneasypeaces - 11/9/2006 3:01:40 PM)
Allen is learning that we really do have to work for what we get in this life.  That has him shellshocked.  He did nothing worthwhile for the people and he lost.

I really hate that I cannot be there. (phriendlyjaime - 11/9/2006 2:34:00 PM)
Back at work after election day and yesterday personal days to get Jim elected.  But, I will see you all at the inaugural, and I hope we can get together soon to celebrate.  I may be in DC this weekend-anyone want to get together?

I don't know. Do you want to come out to Fauquier (thegools - 11/9/2006 6:44:25 PM)
and help me pull down all the big webb signs I put all over the county...including this one....
  my masterpiece!

Hollywoooood (seveneasypeaces - 11/9/2006 7:07:31 PM)
Kirk, I had heard about that sign.  You are definitely Famous!!  It would make a great Christmas card!  You can leave it for a little bit.  Soooo cool!

Oh know you know my name! (thegools - 11/9/2006 7:13:28 PM)
My secret "thegools" cover is blown!!!

Hey I am glad you liked the sign.

BRING IT 4 JAN, CAP.HILL SWEARING IN (kevinceckowski - 11/9/2006 7:11:01 PM)
CEREMONY.

IT WILL BE STUNNING.  HAVE EVERYONE WALKING THROUGH IT AROUND IT, ALL THE PEOPLE OF VIRGINIA PARTICIPATING, A TALKING, WALKING, PIECE OF ART IN MOTION.

KC.

Are you serious? (thegools - 11/9/2006 7:15:37 PM)
Do you want me to save it and bring it to the inaugaration?

(By the way I have two of them, one with 8-10 foot letters, and the other with 4-6 foot letters.)

YES! (phriendlyjaime - 11/9/2006 7:22:13 PM)
Bring them BOTH!  I love the art in motion idea!

Be careful of Webb rage though; might want to bring them in soon.  I checked out the freeper site and it seems like they DEFINITELY aren't being as gracious as some of the Virginia Allen bloggers.

What is the freeper site? (thegools - 11/10/2006 8:49:56 AM)

Gools- (phriendlyjaime - 11/10/2006 7:09:19 PM)
The Free Republic.

::shudders::

stream (TurnVirginiaBlue - 11/9/2006 2:36:25 PM)
I doubt anybody can set up real time streaming but just a note, it's possible for campaigns to set up real time streaming at these events....

just a thought.

ANYWHERE WE CAN SEE IT LIVE ONLINE??? (burglecut - 11/9/2006 3:01:48 PM)
Shot in the dark....

I'm sooooooo there... (Jake Parrott - 11/9/2006 3:11:33 PM)
I wouldn't've worn a red sweater today if I had known about it :)!

I will be there.. (doctormatt06 - 11/9/2006 3:49:22 PM)
Tall guy...with the sign...

eating lunch...

Hooray!!! (and its across from work..double 'I can be lazy' HOOORAY!!!)

Hmm... (doctormatt06 - 11/9/2006 3:50:06 PM)
Maybe Webb can come across the stree to the Navy League and say hello to some of the men and women who work there.

The News Conference is being carried LIVE in NBC4 (Used2Bneutral - 11/9/2006 4:02:45 PM)
go to the web page http://www.NBC4.com  and follow the path to the live feed.... I'm on there now waiting... supposedly now it is going to 3:30 PM... but I'm there now

I can't get it :-( (Bobbi - 11/9/2006 6:14:35 PM)
I'm on the website, it says the press conference is live now, but I can't get anything--no video or audio.  It just keeps saying that it is buffering.  Can anyone see it online?

Wish I Could Be There (KathyinBlacksburg - 11/9/2006 4:54:12 PM)
I learned of this an hour too late to get there.  But I'll be thinking of you all.  This is a great moment for the US, Virginia (and RK!!!!!).  I love all of you!!!!!!!!! You were leaders on this race.  Even after Jim Webb had at first decided not to run, you helped persuade Jim to run.  In the early months last fall and winter(and beyond), you did the research, persuaded, and brought so many of us long.  We were able to persuade primary voters, and continue to build the support base.

Thanks to all of you!!!!! I don't really have words.  (Maybe I'll get my blog voice back in a day or two).  At this moment, after two days of suspended animation, happy tears are here.

Right back at you! (Bobbi - 11/9/2006 6:12:58 PM)
Kathy, Thank you so much for all your work that culminated in this wonderful victory.  Maybe we can ride together to the inauguration.

Bobbi in Roanoke
