To make a long story short, Allen's supporters think that he will probably lose and they are not happy now!

You can open up this link and scroll down all the way to the bottom to see what Allen's supporters are continually saying about the Virginia Senate race:

Election Day Open Thread
Filed under: Virginia politics by Chad Dotson @ 8:12 am

Lots of things to talk about today, so use this thread to discuss whatever you want. Feel free to make your predictions, if you havenGÇÖt done so below (or even if you have).

Let us know what the turnout looks like in your neck of the woods, and what people are saying.

For me, Election Day is one of the most exciting days of the year, every year. CanGÇÖt wait to find out what the results are going to be around the countryGǪ.

Discuss whatever you want in the comments below.

UPDATE: I will also update here with any news from around the Commonwealth that I receive, if thereGÇÖs anything interesting to pass along.

UPDATE 2: Relatively heavy turnout across the state, I hear. ThatGÇÖs all anecdotal, however.

Some exit polls will begin to leak around 5:00 pm, so maybe weGÇÖll have a clue before long.

UPDATE 3: Follow the results as they come in here.

UPDATE 4: By the way, I had to stand in a longer line than ever before when I went to vote today. DonGÇÖt know if that means increased turnout (which might be good for Allen down here in SWVa, or maybe not), or if itGÇÖs because IGÇÖve never voted after 5:00 before. I usually vote before work, but didnGÇÖt do that today. Maybe itGÇÖs always that busy at that poll at that time.

For the record, the available evidence suggests that increased turnout for a mid-term election is probably the reason.

UPDATE 5: Too close to call, but IGÇÖm cautiously optimistic for both Allen and Drake in CD2. Come discuss it in the comments, where IGÇÖll be updating with any information that comes in.

To me, this is about more than losing a Senate seat. Losing an elected political position will not kill any Republican. However, losing a leader and friend, like George Allen, will hurt bad. I am keeping the faith though. Ready to help see this through to the finish.

Losing a GA is tough indeed. IGÇÖm heartened, however, that Virginia hasnGÇÖt completely lost it moral compass. The Marriage Amendment passed.

Folks, if we lose this election, it will be because the House Republicans and others lost sight of what got them there: term limits, balanced budgets, no pork, etc.

I think that Allen got caught up in rip-tide.

In doing so, we need to reassess how we run campaigns in Virginia. The demographics have shifted, the technology has changedGǪand we cannot let it pass us by.

Comment by Dan Stevens GÇö 11/8/2006 @ 2:10 am

Yes, losing George, and Susan, is tough. They are such tireless workers for the people of Virginia. Allen voted right, and heGÇÖs a true conservative, but Dan is right, so many others in the House and the Senate are not like GA. I must say, I blame a lot of this on Bush. HeGÇÖs not a conservative.

Allen did get caught up in a rip tide. But if he had run a campaign as a true conservative, against the liberal agenda, he would have won. It was a terrible campaign, from both sides, the Allen camp and the Washington Post camp, er, Webb camp.

One more thing, many of the politicians elected today are Blue Dog democrats. They wonGÇÖt be voting with the liberals. To win, they ran as conservatives.

Webb? I have no clue how he will vote.
But I donGÇÖt expect much of anything to get done in the next two years which is a good thing.

Some did, come didnGÇÖt: most supported the same bundle of key platforms on things like healthcare and the war though.

I always find it surpremely ironic and a tad disingenuous when you clowns start snorting at Democrats and saying how conservative they areGǪ only after they win. Remember how Kaine was the most liberal statewide politician in the stateGÇÖs history? And then, after he won, somehow he transmorgafied into a claimed near-conservative. And now that the need for that spin has passed, heGÇÖs a liberal again.

The way you guys try to spin every possible thing at some point becomes less about trying to fool voters, and more about trying to fool and comfort yourselves.

Plunge,

I havenGÇÖt been focused on any other elections this cycle except for Allen and Corker (TN). Now that the damage is done and the elections are over, looking over the political landscape as it will be come Jan 07, it appears in the South and Midwest that many of the newly elected democratic congressmen are conservatives. That is not spin, that is based on their platforms. It will be interesting to see how these conservative democrats hold up to pressure from the national party.

Comment by bloglessprosecutor GÇö 11/8/2006 @ 7:25 am

Final thought, if I am right and most of the democrats elected (including it looks like Webb in Va.) are conservatives, I think the country will benefit. If you are right, and these democrats are Pelosi/Reid/Kerry democrats, then Election night 2006 will assure a Republican victory in the Presidential Election of 2008. This country will not tolerate the more liberal brand of Democrat politics, if thatGÇÖs what it turns out to be, for more than these two year House terms.

Comment by bloglessprosecutor GÇö 11/8/2006 @ 7:30 am

Good morning troops.

I agree with the basic theme of the Conservatives on this post. IGÇÖll be putting up the numbers of the microcoysm of super-Conservative Poquoson.

Marriage ran 600 votes ahead of Allen. Jo Ann Davis ran way ahead of Allen.

The worst part of this is the Supreme Court judge to be inflicted on the Nation in the next 2 years. All other things can be fixed by any election.

Comment by James Atticus Bowden GÇö 11/8/2006 @ 7:36 am

hey guys, george did it to himself and he knows that. Look at the rest of teh state. I will say this, This is not a war between the republicans versus the Dem. But Repubs vs The media

Comment by Billcon GÇö 11/8/2006 @ 7:57 am

The election revealed a Republican party that is becoming more and more conservative and more and more southern.

Virginia has returned to its moderate form with the election of Webb, Kaine, Warner, and Warner.

Look for McDonnell to move as fast as he can to the center. I bet he will have his Regent Diploma off his wall by 9 AM this morning.
