My Final Blog

Wow. I am getting teary eyed just writing that.

It's true, today is it for me.

No more blogs, no more meetups, no more campaigns, no more politics.

Tonight, no matter the result. I mark my final day involved in politics.

I still will vote, I still will pay attention, I still will care.

I just have to move on.

I have spent the past 3 1/2 years plus involved in politics, one campaign after another.

I never thought I would meet so many people who care about this country so much.

Everywhere I have gone, Seattle, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Houston, Washington DC.
People care about this country.

When I got involved for the first time, I was so nervous. Nervous, because I didn't know if I would be accepted, nervous because I didn't know what to expect. Nervous because I didn't know how far this would lead me.

3 years, 8 months, and a few days later. I don't regret a second of it. The canvassing, the blogging, the meetings, the speeches, the elections, the candidates, the people.

There are so many good people in this country that are born leaders that just need to step forward and take that call of duty.

So many other who have, need to keep fighting.

I hope as I leave politics, everyone in this country wake up.

I am an ex-republican, a proud democrat, and a true conservative.

I am a true conservative because:

I want to protect our earth god gave us.
I want to stop fighting for no good reason.
I want to help those in poverty.
I want to defend the constitution.
I want to have a strong military.
I want to promote a strong dissent.
I want to see this country come together.

We have no huge differences between us conservatives and liberals. We all seek smiliar ideals. We all love this country.

The gap between us isn't between red or blue states, it isn't between democrats and republicans it's about allowing those in power to continue to lie to us.

All of us. No party, or no person in power is innocent. They are all responsible to us.

We the people.

This country won't be a true democracy unless we all stand up and fight for it.

It's not idealistic to think and hope for all of our citizens to engage in our democracy.

We can't call it a democracy unless people in this country participate.

Someday, I may be back. I can't say that for sure, I can say I will always care.

But I have put my life on hold, now I must move forward. Help me make my dream possible.

Help me bring more people back to this democracy.

The old, the young, the middle aged.

This is our country.

Republicans, Democrats.. Americans.

God Bless you all.

I will never stop believing in this country. Not just because I am a veteran, not just because of our flag, not just because of our constitution.

But because this country is bigger than I am.

Out of many, one.

And out of one.. many.

Keep fighting everyone!

With Love,
DJM

P.S. I voted today, I move forward to finish my undergrad and then hopefully law school.

You have been a source of inspiration (PM - 11/7/2006 4:35:06 PM)
I think you will come back to politics -- you just need a break from it -- it can be all-consuming.

In any event, God speed.

you'll be back (TurnVirginiaBlue - 11/7/2006 4:52:43 PM)
It's just burnt out, I can relate, it's a lot of work trying to do something with no paycheck.

Good luck w/getting in/etc. law school!

Hi.  I had a really long response to your wonderful diary.  So I wrote a diary entry as an open letter to you.  Just posted it.

Excellent work on the campaign Dr. Montoya and best of luck too you with your studies.  I'm sure we'll be hearing good things about you in the years to come.

thanks for all your fantastic contributions and efforts to make this a better country.  And for being a part of RK and the Virginia blog community.

It's great to hear that you'll still follow politics and hopefully that'll keep you involved in some way or another.  Our democracy needs people like you and I certainly hope we haven't seen the last of you.

The best of luck to you!
