MinuteMen

This is just a correction.

The Minuteman Project did not endorse George Allen.  This is the national group that is led by Jim Gilchrist.

The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps PAC did.  They are led by Chris Simcox
I'm a little confused on what the difference is really because I don't follow this stuff, but it does seem they are separate groups and MCDC is much more infused with the Republican party, which would explain why they would endorse someone who could care less about their agenda....I'll bet it's more about keeping the Senate red and then they have some other links which are a little more "questionable" than the MMP in terms of affiliates.

Looks like the PAC is (lwumom - 11/3/2006 8:40:21 PM)
affiliated with the the Project.  MCDC is just the lobbying group that represents the Minuteman Project.  They may have different leaders, but it looks like the same group. http://www.minuteman...  Looks like George is selling his soul (and Virginia's).  He must really need the money!

no (TurnVirginiaBlue - 11/3/2006 9:48:48 PM)
I actually checked, they are two separate groups, not affiliated.

I know because I blasted the minuteman project PR guy with Allen's record and how in God's name could they endorse this guy when he is for massive guest worker Visas, Skil Bill, his voting record is absolutely horrific on any interior enforcement, voted against border security repreatedly and the PR guy responded with a (don't blame us) "we didn't do it, MCDC did".

Sorry...my bad (lwumom - 11/3/2006 9:58:48 PM)
I looked at their websites and they looked so much alike!  I apologize.  Good catch.

I don't want to harp on this topic, I was just concerned the conservatives who like Webb's positions and are going to vote for him would be "baffled by bullshit" from the Corporate camp (where have we seen that one before, say the Latino coalition, a Republican corporate front group demanding more of their biased trade agreements?)...when I know most conservatives concerned with border security, a workable solution, labor arbitrage will vote Webb and absolutely despise Allen and label him a corporate cheap labor lobby whore.  They probably don't like amnesty but will shallow it due to Webb's other positions.

But for sure Allen implying he has magically joined the conservative immigration caucus all of a sudden is an absolute joke.  Just the fact he co-sponsored the Skil Bill and is for guest worker Visas would get him kicked out.  They are "no amnesty ever" in that camp, but they would never support guest worker Visas either.  They say there is no such thing as a temporary Visa.

MCDC (railfanbob - 11/4/2006 2:03:21 AM)
Minuteman Civil Defense Corps is the direct mail fundraising outfit closely linked to Alan Keyes.  They send out a lot of junk mail and buy and sell direct mail lists from Response Unlimited, in other words they're another astroturf group and movement-conservative fundraising scam.

Not the same group at all as the Minuteman Project.  In fact the Minuteman Project has complained that MCDC has given them little of the money they were promised, and the Wash. Times ran a series of articles a couple of months ago exposing MCDC for shady fundraising and failure to adequately account for where the money donated to them goes.

So just where *is* MCDC's money going?  I'd guess most of it goes to buy more bulk mail lists from Response Unlimited and send out more junk mail to bilk more seniors out of their social security checks so they can use the money to buy more mailing lists and send more junk mail, ad nauseum...

Thanks for doing the digging. (Kathy Gerber - 11/4/2006 7:12:52 AM)
Good catch - it does get confusing and I thought they were the same, too.  As a matter of fact, I need to find a comment somewhere and reply "retract" to it or something like that..

Thanks again -
