I was going through the diaries for my local Congressional District (VA-11) and came across a great new Commercial by Andrew Hurst

Andy put out this ad, because Tom Davis has been launching a series of Horribly Misleading Attacks on Andy Hurst based on immigration claiming

Left Wing Liberal Andrew Hurst is Very Weak on Illegal Immigration and is a Very Dangerous Choice for Congress.
Emphasis on original.

And on a separate piece

Andrew Hurst is DANGEROUS on Illegal Immigration! Hurst wants to give amnesty to ALL 11 to 15 million illegal aliens currently breaking our laws by hiding in this country.
emphasis on original.

These pieces are not just misleading, they are LIES, here is AndyGÇÖs position on Illegal immigration

15. Would you support a guest worker program for illegal immigrants that would lead to citizenship?

Yes. The two-pronged immigration problem must be approached as such. To deal with the 11 million illegal immigrants already in this country, we must find some way to integrate them into American society as well as the American economy, and thus a guest-worker program is the most feasible way to do it. The alternative being proposed by the Republicans, deporting everyone, is simply an unrealistic and untenable solution.
The other problem is the ongoing tide of illegal immigration into this country. For this, we need to respond with new, high-tech methods including a system of border security cameras to help law enforcement more effectively patrol the border.

I encourage you all to View the Ad that Andy put out in response and I ask for three things.

1. Hit the Recommend button so that others may be able to see the ad.

2. CONTRIBUTE to the Andrew Hurst Campaign, Andy isnGÇÖt taking PAC money so individual contributions are all that more important

3. VOLUNTEER.  If you live in Northern VA or the DC area, we need you.  Tom Davis is paying his GÇ£volunteersGÇ¥ to phone bank and walk, we actually have real volunteers, and we need you to help.

What is truly amazing is... (Ambivalent Mumblings - 11/3/2006 1:33:22 PM)
.....that Davis keeps claiming that Andy is taking a stance just to claim a political edge. Andy, however, is simply promoting ideas that he believes in. As this video shows, it's actually Davis who is flip floaping around in order to gain votes.

Yeah (pitin - 11/3/2006 1:36:47 PM)
Tom will say/do anything to get elected.

"Deporting everyone"? (LonewackoDotCom - 11/3/2006 8:55:02 PM)
I'm not aware of any elected leader proposing "deporting everyone". Most of those who oppose illegal immigration favor attrition: enforcing our laws so many illegal aliens will return to the countries of which they're citizens.

And, the "guest" worker program described can be called whatever you want: "amnesty", "path to citizenship", "banana", whatever. However, what really matters is how it will be perceived. And, millions of prospective illegal aliens around the world will see it as an amnesty.

Just curious (Andrea Chamblee - 11/3/2006 11:46:00 PM)
How do you "enforce our laws so everyone returns to their country of citizenship" without deporting people? With the War in Iraq sucking billions of dollars, how do we pay for the jobs for people who will enforce the laws?
Whatever your idea is, you can be sure it will get honest consideration from Andy Hurst, but not Tom Davis. Davis gets contributions from industries that don't want immigration enforced-- construction, restaurants, etc.  For a $5,000 contribution to one or more of his PACs, those businesses save tens of thousands from of cheap, illegal labor with no health care or social security. Since 1998, Davis has been in power; he's been Chairman of the Committee overseeing Customs and ATF and Homeland Security since 2002. What has he done? These people arrived here on his watch and these businesses are luring these immigrants here with promises of jobs. They risk their lives to get here.  We need to hold these employers accountable.

Ad exposes Davis' dishonesty (b crowe - 11/4/2006 12:12:21 PM)
Although Andy Hurst has been effective in public forums at getting out his positive message and pointing out the dangers of sending Davis back to the Capitol, he hasn't had the big money needed to get enough ads like this on the air in northern VA.

Davis is a stealth Republican; staying under the radar. Voters don't realize Davis is from the '94 Congressional class that elected Tom Delay as their leader. Davis is a product of the Delay system, and a Delay insider. He is managing to avoid having that connection discussed in the media. Davis' strategy to try and maintain his chairmanship of the Govt Reform Comm is to lay low and hope nobody turns over the wrong rock.

Hurst, in contrast, is the real deal, talks about the issues facing the country, such as, congressional corruption, and offers specific solutions. Hurst is interested in bringing transparency back to the Hill because it is healthy for our American system of government. Davis is interested in protecting his power at the expense of our priciples of government.

My prediction is that, if Davis beats Hurst, it won't be long before we hear that Davis is the target of a congressional ethics investigation or named in the larger federal Abramoff investigation.

Either way, our system will prevail. The people will elect Hurst to bring integrity back to Congress, or the law will eventually kick Davis out from under his rock.
