Tide of Change

When I first involved myself with the Webb campaign, quite honestly it was in opposition to his opponent in the primary.  I wasn't sure about Jim Webb, but I knew all too well about the alternative.

Jim Webb (thankfully) won the primary.  Everyone said his chances were slim to none.  I thought that unfortunate because I started to fully understand why he would be so great for this country.

Fortunately THINGS HAVE CHANGED!
Jim Webb is not only a contender in this race, he is leading in the latest polls.  What this race means is that Americans will rally behind a moderate candidate who will work for the betterment of the populace.

I hope to see Jim Webb become a part of a bi-partisan coalition, WHEN he is elected, with other moderates.  I hope that he will be the one to lead our government back on course - to address issues of unfair trade, offshoring of jobs, corporate tax loopholes resulting in thousands of American companies incorporating in a single Jamaican building, our twin deficits, and the list goes on.

I know that there are people who think they are liberals supporing Webb.  Many believe they are liberals because Republicans are suppose to be conservative.  And since Republicans are walking disasters, conservative ideals must also be bad.

The truth is that Democrats are MORE CONSERVATIVE on defense, labor, taxes, trade, and overall management of our government.  Republicans are downright WRECKLESS on these issues.  Most democrats are social liberals, but when it comes to managing our country they do a more responsible job.

Anti-abortion is not a "conservative" ideal.  Most REAL conservatives would not approve of government control of a woman's body.

Gay marriage is not a "conservative" ideal.  REAL conservatives believe that marriage is not the business of the government - it is a covenant between people and their maker (also not the business of government).

All I am trying to say is that YOU PEOPLE AREN'T A BUNCH OF FLAMING LIBERALS.  In fact, you are quite conservative.  That is a good thing.

I don't know that I want to think that I'm conservative in the sense of what it has come to mean in this country, but I appreciate the sentiment as you put it.

My "bone to pick" is the corporate tax loopholes you mentioned.  These corporations register offshore in order to avoid taxes for using US infrastructures....roads, rails, ports....and also to avoid penalties that come with doing business with nations that support terrorists.  Greed is the dominating factor in this nation right now....and isn't that one of the deadly sins?

Greed (relawson - 11/3/2006 1:53:10 AM)
Yes,

Greed is out of conrol.  There is an elite group of people who think that ethics and laws don't apply to them.

I wouldn't want to be a so-called "conservative" either in the fake sense - in other words what the Republicans tell you it means to be conservative.

The Republicans in office today use the word "conservative" as a campaign tool.  They are interested in increasing their own wealth.  The have no interest in the common wealth.  The fact that these people call themselves "conservative" is a joke.

Jim Webb knows the true definition of conservative.  It doesn't involve record trade and budget deficits.  It doesn't involve the government involving itself in your personal life.

Ask Jim.  He knows.
