NCAA Basketball Tournament

This is totally off topic I know, but it's my blog so I can write whatever the hell I want, right?  Anyway, here are my thoughts on the NCAA men's basketball tournament.

  • Thank god it's March Madness time.  I am SO sick of winter!
  • I'm psyched, my alma mater (Penn) is in, my graduate school (George Washington) is in, and the school of the state where I grew up is in (UConn).  Oh yeah, my wife's alma mater (West Virginia) also made it.  Now, I just wish Penn and GW had been seeded a bit higher...but I'll certainly take it!
  • I'm really, REALLY psyched that Maryland is OUT.  First off, Maryland CHOKE simply CHOKE didn't deserve CHOKE to be in.  Second, I just don't like that CHOKE school.  Third, I don't like their CHOKE coach. Fourth, I don't like how Marylanders (or whatever they call themselves) are always bad-mouthing Virginia.  Fifth, with Maryland and Georgetown BOTH out of the tournament, it's official: my alma mater George Washington is THE Washington DC area team for men's hoops.  Shweet!
  • Now that Maryland and Georgetown have been taken down a notch or two, perhaps they'll finally lower themselves and agree to a DC-area "Big 5," just like in Philly?  Unless, of course, they're AFRAID to play GW!
  • This has absolutely no basis in fact, but what the hell, let's start the tradition right here.  In odd-number years in which UVA doesn't make the NCAA tournament, the Republican candidate for governor gets his butt kicked by the Democrat.  Also, whenever the alma mater of Virginia's current governor makes the NCAA tournament and wins at least one game, his Lt. Governor goes on to become governor, while the current governor goes on to become...oh, I dunno, rich and famous maybe? Living in a big white house somewhere?
  • Wow, Virginia had a bad year in men's college basketball this year.  Thank goodness for Old Dominion University -- go Monarchs!
  • Also, thank goodness for the ladies:  Va. Tech, Richmond, Old Dominion (two-for-two!), UVA, and Liberty all made it this year.  Good luck to all of you!
