New Reuters/Zogby Poll: Webb 45%, Allen 44%

According to a brand new Reuters/Zogby poll released a few minutes ago, it's Webb 45%, Allen 44%:

VIRGINIA - Democratic challenger James Webb holds a slim 45 percent to 44 percent lead over Republican Sen. George Allen, who led by 11 points in the last survey. Allen has suffered a series of campaign missteps.

More good news for Jim Webb.  Allen can't seem to get about 45% or so, and Webb has held leads in most major, recent polls.  In other words, this race is close, but Jim Webb has an excellent shot at winning it, especially considering that undecideds tend to break to the challenger by a 2:1 or 3:1 margin.  And this is a year of "change," which should, if anything, accentuate that tendency.

Meanwhile, Allen has his staffers under investigation for assault, his campaign is nearly broke, and he's got no positive vision to talk about.  In contrast, Jim Webb has a crystal clear vision - reorient our national security policy, focus on issues of social justice and economic fairness, rein in the power of the out-of-control Executive Branch.  Webb also has more money to spend, and a much larger and more fired-up volunteer base than Allen.

Now, it's all up to us.  Let's work the next 5 days like we've never worked before.  Call, e-mail, and talk to everyone you know.  Help with our "lit drops" this weekend.  Help greet voters at polls on Tuesday, give them rides, remind them to come out and vote.  If we do all that, we win. And then, we can party.  As Jim Webb says, there will be beer!! :)

P.S. Reuters/Zogby also show Ben Cardin leading in Maryland, Jon Tester holding on to a slim lead in Montana, Robert Menendez pulling away in New Jersey, Sherrod Brown holding a comfortable lead in Ohio, Bob Casey continuing his months-long lead over Rick "Man on Dog" Santorum, and Lincoln Chafee getting trounced in Rhode Island.  In the only bad news of the new polls, it looks like Harold Ford has fallen behind his opponent, Bob Corker.  That's sad, especially considering the disgraceful, race-baiting ads that the Republicans have run on Corker's behalf.  Let's hope that one changes - fast!

Thast a real shame about Ford, hate to see that crap work, especially when they tried the nasty here and blew up in their
face.

But speaking of Webb, He really is growing into this politician things, kicking ass and taking names.

It is amazing to hear comparison clips between the two candidates: Allen seems way off his game, halting, trying to remember his talking points, while Webb flows easily speaking from his heart.

I like.

COMMENT HIDDEN (OS Metal - 11/2/2006 10:07:14 AM)

So you're in favor of (Eric - 11/2/2006 10:39:52 AM)
the tax breaks big oil companies receive courtesy of the Republican party?  While those same oil companies have been making record PROFITS (not revenues - PROFITS) for quarter after quarter?

Perhaps you'd prefer that the average person pay for the Iraq war and out-of-control Republican pork than the big corporations, who don't pay their fair share of taxes today?

Jim Webb's business ideas are founded on the principal of creating a better financial situation for everyone, not just the big corporations and ultra-rich.

But hey, if you enjoy getting shafted by corporate America while the Republican controlled government helps them instead of you, by all means, vote for Allen.

Will not even respond to your idoicy (Jon-Phillip - 11/2/2006 10:45:37 AM)
But, I  will be very content to know your disquietude when Jim Webb is our next US Senator.

Oh but it is sooo, tempting!

If people like you had their say  we will be complete left behind by the new energy economy (the cost of solar drops by half every time demand doubles), we will lose our China as all the other industrial nations (yes including China) switch to more efficiencies, and decentralized energy grids.

If it was up to people like you our economy would stagnate . . . even Allen gets this (after a bunch of polling, heheheh, so much for being a leader)  he has decided he needs to talk about those damn sink holes of bio fuels and renewable.

Don't you even follow what your candidate says?

That's silly. (Lowell - 11/2/2006 10:47:47 AM)
The answer to cutting energy prices is overwhelmingly on the demand side (e.g., energy efficiency) and also on the supply side (renewables).  Jim Webb supports both those things, as well as environmentally safe oil and gas drilling.  You're just wrong.

PS  ExxonMobil can afford to give up a few percent of its all-time record profits and HUGE bonuses to its fat-cat CEOs.  If you think any of that causes more oil to be produced, I've got a nice oil well in Arlington I'd like to sell you!! LOL

Mr. Metal or what ever your name is? (Jon-Phillip - 11/2/2006 10:54:32 AM)
Also, prices are going to go WAY up again as OPEC cuts production this month.

But I suppose you are cool with that, I mean America's economic and stradic security being held hostiage by a foreign cartel.  Up, down, Up down . . . notice the coralation to GDP

I mean thats ok if you like that sort of things.

And do, DO NOT, be so stupied and say domestic oil production will be our salvation.

Its like comparing a guy with a $100 bucks in his pocket (OPEC) to a guy with a quarter in is pocket (US oil reserves).

Is the guy with the quarter richer than the guy with $100 if he doubles, tripples or even quadruples is money?

Sorry I keep posting the rough drafts! (Jon-Phillip - 11/2/2006 10:56:49 AM)

Can you believe it! (Dan - 11/2/2006 10:49:44 AM)
This is people-powered politics at work.  Lowell, you have done a kick ass job with this campaign.  Now where the f#$* were you when Kerry was running???  Oh wait, nobody could have helped Kerry.  Nevermind.

I got about 200-300 more flyers to get out, and door knockers as well.  The metros have been more than well-covered.  We are doing the right job with our ARMY of volunteers.  Jim Webb kicks ASS!

Come to downtown Warrenton (thegools - 11/2/2006 7:29:08 PM)
The town went for Kaine last year, but I don't think Webb people have been at the doors....and i don't have time.

We do have big sign all over Fauquier that I have put up.  The presence is there just not the feet on the ground.

That said i saw 7 Webb commercials last night to Zero Allen ones.

Week long poll (DanG - 11/2/2006 11:30:44 AM)
This poll was conducted over seven days.  Again, hard to trust.  But it's good to compare against the new Roanoke poll, another long term poll.  This poll was started a few days later than the Roanoke College poll, and shows a trend in Webb's favor.

Still waiting for SUSA.
