CNN poll: Webb 50% to Allen 46%

From Daily Press article:

... Among likely voters, the former Republican was the choice of 50 percent of those surveyed while 46 percent favored Allen and 4 percent were undecided.

Because Webb's edge is equal to the margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points, it means Webb is slightly ahead.

The result is based on telephone interviews Opinion Research Corp. conducted for CNN from Oct. 26-29 among 597 registered Virginia voters who identified themselves as likely to vote on Nov. 7.

Good news. Three new polls all showing the same trend.  Let's work harder!!!!  Let's make it count.

AWESOME!!! (Loudoun County Dem - 10/30/2006 11:44:20 PM)
Is there any data on what each days results were? I would like to see if it was building successively...

Four polls showing a slight lead gives me hope (Catzmaw - 10/31/2006 12:44:57 AM)
I'll agree we need to keep working, but I recruited a friend of mine today who'd sworn off politics in despair that the Republicans could ever be defeated, and he agreed to start writing LTEs all because I was able to persuade him that we're competitivea.  Next, let's see about phonebanking.

We can make this just like Kaine (DanG - 10/31/2006 12:52:35 AM)
We can turn this into a Kaine-like victory if we get the vote out.

Webb is the one with the poll showing him at 50% or over.  We just need to keep pushing it.

WE HAVE THE VOTES, WE JUST NEED TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY'RE AT THE POLLING PLACE ON NOVEMBER 7TH.  GET OUT THE VOTE.

Wonder what (libra - 10/31/2006 3:15:25 AM)
had hapepned to my previous post (and some others, too, I think) on the subject.

This is the first poll to show *either* candidate breaching the magic 50%. That it should be *Webb* is, indeed a reason to rejoice.

And to work harder; 4% diff isn't enough :)

It's not enough to just win, we have to crush the Allen-supporters (snolan - 10/31/2006 7:15:13 AM)
Allen's supporters stand for everything that is wrong in American politics today; we have to do more than simply win by a narrow margin.

We have to prove that lying, pandering to hate and fear, character assasination, going negative without call, and campaigning on anything other than issues does not pay off.

We need to do this so that future elections are not all about personal and family crap, and all about issues and ideas for how to improve the country.

Agreed. Allen shouldn't get the vote of... (Lowell - 10/31/2006 7:20:28 AM)
..a SINGLE Virginian.  You know, I just went back and watched that "macaca" video again, and it's more disgusting to me than ever.  I don't know why, but it seems uglier and meaner, like something out of the 1920s or 30s in Virginia, certainly not the 21st century!

I also watched the macaca video.....and it was even more disgusting (scarlatagal - 10/31/2006 8:22:08 AM)
I think everybody needs to take another look at it just to remind themselves of what a sneering, bullying, smug jerk Senator Allen displayed himself to be.  And even the applause following his macaca remarks was not particularly enthusiastic--people must have known then how gross it all was.  We gotta get this guy off the federal payroll--lets FIRE HIM BIGTIME!!!!!

Here it is again. (Lowell - 10/31/2006 8:29:02 AM)

What Explains This Shift? (Oakton Dem - 10/31/2006 8:45:14 AM)
Not that I'm complaining.  But what explains this late break in the polls for Webb?  Is it the undecideds (about 12% in some previous polls) going for Webb?  Who are these people?  Any ideas?

Undecideds often break heavily (2:1 or 3:1) (Lowell - 10/31/2006 9:07:21 AM)
for the challenger. It could be that, plus Allen's crazed (and stupid) attack on Jim Webb's Marine Corps-endorsed Vietnam War novels!

Also, some of the previously "decideds" (Eric - 10/31/2006 10:55:49 AM)
may very well have changed their minds during the past few weeks.

For many moderate to mid-range Republicans the choice between Webb and Allen has been a tough one, with those people favoring Allen slightly during the past few months.  It's hard to vote the other way after years of voting for one party.

But finally Allen's lack of vision and leadership, his blind support of the worst President in history, his flip-flop on Iraq, his hypocritical and politically driven social conservative positions while employing gays and owning stock in an "abortion pill" company, his claims to "talk about issues" but focusing only on character, his completely misleading negative ads, his racist bullying, and so much more have finally made these moderate Republicans realize that Allen is NOT the person they want representing them.  It took a while but they're coming to realize the same thing we've known for a long time.

They've had enough and they've changed their mind about who they're voting for.
