For $4.68 anybody can get Lost Soldiers online right here right now.

Criticizing a book you haven't read is an absolute joke. No one is qualified to make a statement about a book they haven't bothered to read.

That's like Raymond Sokolov writing something like this but - oops - never setting foot in the restaurant!

"Dramatic is the green-tea and lime mousse, for which pressurized essences of tea and lime are pumped out of siphons into a bowl of steaming liquid nitrogen. The cold 'poaches' the mousses instantly, turning them into clouds of pure airy flavor. Or perhaps you would prefer something straightforward, like a soft-boiled egg in an egg cup. At The Fat Duck, this means three raffine layers - langoustine cream, quail-egg jelly and pea puree with a strip of sauteed duck skin standing up in the faux egg.

Main courses, while not so radical, continue the prestidigitation. Veal kidney is cooked in its own fat, pretending it is a Big Mac by being served with fries, ketchup, and a sauce 'mac-vin.' On the $150-a-person tasting menu, the audacity level rises, as if the chef is daring you that you WILL like sardine-on-toast sorbet."

I just finished posting a comment on Townhall.com about this.  In reading the Repub rags and blogs about this many of the commentators are talking about how icky the passages are, but clearly haven't read the books for themselves. What a bunch of wienies.  I recommend that everyone go hit the conservative blogs and editorials and lay them out on this issue.

Kathy you tell them. They do not understand anything until some says Shut up or start to call them names. Go get Ms Kathy, your are a lady and even ladies get tired of this bull.

this is a side comment (TurnVirginiaBlue - 10/29/2006 6:19:02 PM)
But I really wonder if sales have dramatically increased on Webb's novels.

I actually haven't read any because that's really not my "thing" (although I'll watch the movie!) but this has gotten me thinking these would be a great read from all of the publicity.

Be a collectors item down the road. Better rush out and buy some. Heck if Lynne Cheney's book can go for $295 to $1000, just what will Jim's sell for in the future?

allen just thinks that we are lazy and dumb (norman swingvoter - 10/31/2006 12:09:59 PM)
I haven't actually read the book either so george allen and I have at least one thing in common.  I guess that allen thought we were too dumb to go to Amazon and see what people who had read the book thought about it.
This book is rated 4 stars averaged on 35 reviewers.  Most say this book is outstanding on giving you a perspective on Vietnam during this time.
I couldn't help but notice Webb's book, Field of Fire.  This book is rated 5 stars averaged on 75 reviews.  I have confirmed that it is currently on the recommended reading lists of the US Marines.
Not bad for books allen is shocked by.
