Allen [Hearts] Limbaugh

Michael J. Fox will be rallying support for Jim Webb in Arlington on Nov. 2nd. (Click here for more info.) As we all know, George Allen opposes the embryonic stem cell research that could cure Michael J. Fox. But what we donGÇÖt know is if Allen condones the heinous comments and mocking levied on Fox by his buddy Rush Limbaugh.

At least one Republican has come out to condemn Limbaugh. Maryland Senate candidate Michael Steele, the Republican facing Ben Cardin, a Democrat also endorsed by Michael J. Fox for his support of embryonic stem cell research, publicly stood "in rejecting Rush Limbaugh's ugly attack on Fox"? [WaPo, 10/26/06]

Other than the attacks on Michael J. Fox levied by AllenGÇÖs own A-Team blog, George has been deathly silent on the subject. So in the
absence of anything directly from him, we are left to only consider the following "major mutual-admiration society" occurrences between George and Rush in the recent past.

Besides George Allen being listed #1 on Limbaugh's 2008 Presidential contenders list, Rush, in deference to the rule of the GOP to pander to racists, all too quickly and vehemently jumped at the chance to declare poor George as the victim. Limbaugh who also thinks Democrats conspired to create GÇ£Foley-gateGÇ¥, also accuses Democrats being behind George AllenGÇÖs GÇ£gaffesGÇ¥. Limbaugh said the attack "is Allen being railroaded GÇö they [Democrats] have overshot again GÇö they have gone way over the line."

Ah, Rush Limbaugh, the expert on where lines are drawn.

And there is this from the North Carolina Conservative (Jan. 2006).

NCC: Rush Limbaugh has repeatedly stated that your political speeches are inspirational and remind him of President Reagan; what is your reaction to his praise?

Sen. Allen: That is as high a compliment as I can envision. I like Rush Limbaugh GÇö he is an influential and smart leader. He is also entertaining. I find it relaxing to listen to Rush. It is a very high compliment to be mentioned by Rush, and to be mentioned with my political hero, the man who motivated me to get involved in politics, President Reagan. I was in law school, at the University of Virginia, when they asked me to become chairman of Young Americans for Reagan, which was my first experience in organized politics. Plus, Rush knows sports, and he knows football. (h/t Raising Kaine))

ItGÇÖs a high compliment to be mentioned by Rush? A man who was fired from ESPN for saying Donovan McNabb was overrated because he was black? A man who asked, GÇ£I mean, why didn't these morons leave New Orleans before the hurricane? I'll tell you why: because they wanted to rape and loot! That's  just the way some people are! And if they're black--if the rapists and looters are black--it's not George Bush's fault! We've had these problems ever since the Emancipation Proclamation. Once the whites leave town, all you've got is overwhelming lawlessness.GÇ¥ There you go... George Allen's example of an influential and smart leader.

Then there's the lovin' George Allen sends his friend Rush by way of newly-installed White House press secretary on the show GÇ£HardballGÇ¥...

Allen: "The thing that's good about Tony Snow is that being on talk radio, he has a pulse on what people in the real world think on issues such as immigration, on taxes, on spending, on energy prices, and a variety of issues and I think he bringing the pulse of people in the real world to the White House, understanding how people react to it and whether they are on Rush Limbaugh's show or Hugh Hewitt's show or Laura Ingraham's show or who knows who, the Sean Hannity's or any other radio show- the fact that he understands the language, the sentiments, the spirit of the American people who want to see action here in Washington..."

So, to Allen as one Crooks and Liars comment points out, "[W]hen right wing talk show hosts say that Democrats hate the military, are anti-American, sound like terrorists, and hurricane survivors in New Orleans are 'scumbags,' they are expressing the total spirit of the American people." And add to the list those in addition to Democrats that Limbaugh repeatedly vilifies, to include not only sick people but poor people, blacks, women, all people of Mexican descent who he assumes are all illegal aliens, and Arabs. Anybody but those vilified by Limbaugh are the ones George Allen sees wanting action in Washington and the ones whose causes he sees fit to recognize.
