VA GOVERNORS to SPEAK at JIM WEBB RALLY

Real Virginians for Jim Webb
A Diverse Grassroots Coalition Event to Support Jim Webb

Governors Tim Kaine and Mark Warner will join Democratic Senate candidate Jim Webb at a GÇ£Get Out The VoteGÇ¥ rally Saturday at Poe Middle School in Annandale at 1 pm.  Congressman Jim Moran and Congressional candidates Judy Feder and Andrew Hurst will also speak.

The event is unique because it was proposed, planned and will be largely executed by volunteers rather than paid staff.  The volunteer organizers are members of a group called GÇ£Real Virginians for WebbGÇ¥ (RVFW). RVFW was formed shortly after Sen. George AllenGÇÖs infamous GÇ£MacacaGÇ¥ statements, implying that the "real world of Virginia" excludes minorities and embraces prejudice.  Shared indignation among Webb volunteers working in various ethnic outreach programs inspired them to unite their separate efforts under one banner.

The notion that we are all GÇ£real VirginiansGÇ¥ caught on with non-ethnic volunteers as well.  Unlike George AllenGÇÖs GÇ£Ethnic Rally,GÇ¥ RVFWGÇÖs GÇ£Get Out The VoteGÇ¥ rally is intended for Virginians of all backgrounds.  Organizers of RVFW include many Caucasians, and the group stresses that this rally is not for minorities only. As organizer Jan Mueller explained: GÇ£This movement is about uniting people.  ItGÇÖs for all Virginians, and all Americans who believe that the values that we have in common are greater than our differences.GÇ¥
