I grew up in Southwestern Virginia,Born 1959. I've seen the changes from an Old Southern State in the 1960's to Virginia being part of The New South of the 1980's. I've seen the segregated Schools and Blue Laws, I've seen the Corporate Powers provide Job growth in depressed unemployed counties in Virginia.America has changed forever and so has Virginia. While Virginia has changed, many things that are so important in the future "must" change.Folks we need the "Rail Solution" in Virginia to bring Factory "Back" Jobs to Virginia, We don't need a Haliburton Mega-Trucking highway Short-cut through our mountains. We need a Medicaid Cost Study to salvage Virginia Collected taxes. George Allen has voted to pass these Medicaid cost on to the State, which means you and me Virginians. We need to control property taxes because our local governments are spending like the Republican Congress,an Internet Zip-code tax for police and fire services would lower property taxes and be more fair. Many Mega-Profit Corporations pay zero-federal taxes in virginia and folks we need these taxes for our Medicaid Budget. We need to protect our Elderly in Virginia from Medicaid nursing Home liens on their property. they should not be punished for growing old and ill. We need Winter Greenhouses in Virginia for fresh produce. We need to A Virginia Forest protection act to keep the Bush cabinet from selling our forest to corrupt bidders. The Blue Law may be long gone in Virginia but folks let's keep the Mandatory Standard 40 hour Work Week in Virginia with overtime optional so people can spend time with their families and tidy up the house. Folks the Republicans want to phase-out Social Security and this will cost Virginians more taxes than now in food stamp and welfare in 20 years, to understand this you must go back and study elderly povery in the USA before 1935.
