Allen Blows Off Urban League for Football Game

Priorities, priorities.  Tonight, in Alexandria, Jim Webb will be attending the Northern Virginia Urban League (NVUL) Political Forum.  NVUL's mission is to promote opportunities and help Northern Virginia African Americans secure economic self-reliance, parity, power and civil rights through program services and advocacy.  Jim Webb will be there to make remarks, take questions, and meet attendees at the event.

In contrast, George Allen's going to be...at a football game!  Look, there's absolutely nothing wrong with attending football games, and certainly not one involving Virginia Tech.  But, c'mon now, how can George Allen blow off a major African American organization, which invited him to participate in its forum along with Jim Webb, and instead go watch football?  As I said above, "priorities, priorities."

Oh yeah, Allen IS sending a "surrogate" - Ron Christie, straight from George W. Bush's and Dick Cheney's White House, where he servesd as special assistant to the President.  Christie has also worked for Dick "Even More Unpopular Than Bush" Cheney and George "Soon To Be a Former Senator" Allen.  I'm sure the Urban League will be fascinated to hear what Mr. Christie has to say - maybe an explanation of why George Allen thinks football's more important than they are?

[UPDATE:  Apparently, Christie was on Chris Matthews last night arguing that the Howell "call me Harold" ad is NOT racist. Are these right-wingers ALL bonkers?]

slight correction -- Christie left the White House and Cheney in March 2004.  A frequent guest on Hardball, Christie is way beyond a koolaid drinker -- he was on Hardball this week telling Chris Matthews that the racist campaign ad against Harold Ford was "just fine" and disparaged all who criticized the ad.

I'll be at the game with my webb buttons and stickers on (Doug Garnett-Deakin - 10/26/2006 4:13:12 PM)
My whole tailgate party! Go Tech! Go Jim!

Sen. Allen gave up (Arturo - 10/26/2006 4:14:00 PM)
Sen. Allen has given up on us people of color.  Oh well...  We should inform Sen. Lambert.

Oh, heck, Georgie did the NAACP thing. He probably thinks that's enough.

Yeah, but they wouldn't (Catzmaw - 10/26/2006 6:40:34 PM)
let him buy the cheaper membership. They took his $750.  He's done his bit, right?

As a former VT football player (Jeff B - 10/26/2006 5:35:58 PM)
I hope George gets a vicious boo from the Hokie faithful tonight. Besides being a bigot, being a Wahoo might be worse.

jeff, you are right... (lgb30856 - 10/26/2006 5:39:21 PM)
what is he thinking? Allen is a UVA person and there is no love lost with va tech. my son just graduated from there and the fans are not too keen on uva people at their game.
Boo him out of the stands but oh,no , he will probably be in a reserved box. where he should be.

I don't know the guy from Adam... Is he supposed to be running for Senate from VA? Given that Allen is bored with the job?

It has just occured to me; there *is* a difference between Bush and Allen... Bush finds being in a position of responsibility a "hard job". Allen, OTH, finds it a *boring* one...
