Stay the Course--Wait What Were Those Poll Numbers?

Now it is clear that most Americans believe the mounting evidence that Iraq is a disaster.  They no longer buy the Republicans' feel-good stories about successes in Iraq, nor do they accept the claims by George Allen and George Bush that anything less than "stay the course" is unpatriotic.  With the Republican's hold on Congress threatened, Allen and Bush have decided it's time to follow the polls and say what Democrats, like Jim Webb, have been saying for a long time: it's time to adjust course and impose timetables for progress and for shifting responsibility to the Iraqis.

Unfortunately, not even the Iraqis take the Administration's latest statements seriously.  According to an AP report today, the Iraqi Prime Minister has rejected published assertions that the U.S. had imposed a timetable on Iraq's actions.  The Prime Minister said that no one had the right to impose timetables on the Iraq's government.  According to the AP, "The prime minister dismissed U.S. talk of timelines as driven by the coming midterm elections in the United States. 'I am positive that this is not the official policy of the American government but rather a result of the ongoing election campaign. And that does not concern us much,' he said."

Truth?  For Allen and Bush, it's ok to say anything--regardless of truth--so long as it will help to win the next election.  Neither the U.S. nor Iraq need more of that kind of so-called "leadership."

To them it's all about winning.

"Flip Flopping" (Todd Smyth - 10/26/2006 10:24:05 AM)
When Dems change course, they get reemed for "Flip Flopping."  When Republicans changes course, they try to convince people the new position was their position all along and we just didn't understand.

The big difference between Republicans and Democrats is that the Democratic Party is too diverse and too disorganized to ever be taken over or controlled by one group or class of people.  The Republican Party is owned and operated by a small group of wealthy, greedy and arrogant people who will tell people anything they want to hear to get elected/re-elected and they are taking our contry off a cliff.
