Local media in Bristol, Va., including the Bristol Herald Courier, WJHL-TV and TriCities.com, conducted a voluntary, informal survey online and with submissions to see what's on the minds of Southwest Virginia voters this election cycle. National polls reflect this. Control of Congress appears at stake.

The mood of local voters reflects the national trends. The war in Iraq, illegal immigration and intensely personal worries about affordable health care loom large.
